Is it safe to loose weight when pregnant?

So I have a question, Is it safe (I'm 33 weeks) to try to loose some pounds before I give birth? Not exaggerated weight either but like start to work out a little more each day and eat healthier than before.. I just walk everyday but not do any actual excercises.. For the past months I've been pigging out and have gained a lot of weight so fast I don't wanna be so heavy and huge after the baby.. Is it too late to try to get fit?

  • Eating right and getting light or even moderate exercise is not a bad idea, just don't overdo it. You don't want to elevate your heart rate excessively, and you should not be getting so winded that you can't carry on a conversation. You may not be able to lose any weight at this point (remember baby is still getting bigger), but working toward a healthier lifestyle may slow down your weight gain and make it significantly easier to shed those extra pounds after the baby comes.

  • Don't try to lose weight when pregnant. Eat healthy and walk and control how much you gain.

  • Unless your dr approves it then no. I loose weight when I'm pregnant but not because I'm trying I would never try to do that.

  • Walking is okay but anything excessive isn't advised when you haven't been doing it the whole pregnancy. I've been very active my whole pregnancy and now at 35 weeks it's getting harder to keep my routine, my body is aching. So you may find it to be a dead end. Eating well and portion control is a great idea anyway. Just listen to your body and don't try to lose weight. Just do it to be healthy.
  • I would suggest just have a healthy lifestyle. So keep eating right and exercising and not overdoing it.
  • If you can stick to the gestational diabetes diet, you will stop gaining weight. It is plenty of calories for a pregnant woman (1800 - 2000) but is extremely healthy with a focus on small meals, whole grains, veggies and lean meat. Once I started the diet, I lost 6 pounds then only gained 1 pound back by 36 weeks. My doctor was thrilled. Before GD I was on track to gain 40+ pounds. Now I will probably end this pregnancy at about 25 pounds gained. Try to take nice long walks every day as well if you can.
