3 hour GD glucose test

my doctors cut off for the 1 hour test is 135, I was a few points over that so I have to take the three hour test. I was only told to fast for 12 hours prior. I can't take the three hour until Tuesday so my thinking was that in case I have GD I should start restricting carbs right away, but I also don't want to cheat the test in any way. So I started googling and came upon multiple sites from doctors offices with very similar instructions to eat high carb diets for three days before the test. Thoughts?

    I was told to eat 150g carbs for 3 days prior. The reason is that it gives your body time to get used to processing the carbs, esp if you normally follow a low carb type diet. The sugary drink is all carbs, and the 3 hr glucola is twice as strong as the 1 hr glucola. Good luck!

    I was not told any specific rules for eating before the 3 hour test. I did have to fast for 12 hours before though. Good luck!

    The thought behind carb-loading is that you are less likely to get a false positive.  Bottom-line is if you have gestational diabetes then your body won't be able to process the sugar well, regardless of what you eat in the days prior.  So you aren't cheating so much as trying to eliminate the possibility of a false diagnosis.

    I was an ob nurse before I became a stay at home mom for my 3 year old. There is honestly a very low chance of a false positive diagnosis after the 3 hour glucose test. they take 3 blood samples from you after you drink the solution, and if two of the tests come back higher than the target then you are then positive for gd. If one test or no test comes back positive then your free and clear. The reason why there is a low chance of a miss diagnosis is because they are testing how fast your sugar is able too stabilize. If you don't have gd, no matter how much carbs you've had, your sugar levels should be under the target by the second blood draw. Do keep in mind I did say low chance not any chance. Sorry it's wordy but I got asked this question a lot back then and there is no need to worry. Good luck!
