Hello and welcome!
This is a check-in to offer support and encouragement to each other while
facing the challenge of bed rest during pregnancy.

If you are new, please tell us your EDD; # and gender of
LOs; type of bed rest (modified / strict / hospital) and when it started in
your pregnancy; reason for bed rest; and any updates from recent appointments.

QOTW / GTKY:  What is your all time favorite movie? Book? TV show? Perhaps we can inspire each other with something new for entertainment :-)

Re: ~~~Bed Rest Check-In 5/28/15~~~

  • Things are going well here, still on modified bed rest.  Still working from home, but trying to put things in motion to be out of work by June 12.  It's getting tough to sit and work since I'm as big at 30 weeks with twins as I was right before I had DD at 38 weeks.  Doctors are now talking about moving up my c-section date - but I'll know more once I have my growth scan next week.

    QOTW / GTKY:
Movie - Sliding Doors (Gwenyth Paltrow) - I love the idea that one moment can change the course of your life.
Book - this is a tough one.  I do a lot of fiction reading.  I have to say that I really enjoyed the Game of Thrones books which are not my typical genre.  But for those of you who have a ways to go on bedrest, I highly recommend the books.
TV Show - Tough to pick just one - but I like Homeland, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Mad Men - some of which have ended and are perfect to pick up on Netflix / DVD.

  • Things are going well. Memorial Day weekend was tough because all my friends from college got together in CT for the weekend and I had to miss it:(. That was tough but this week seems to be shaping up well. The in laws are coming over to do some gardening for me today and I'll be psyched once it's all done! Baby is doing well and we hit 33 weeks today! One more week and I'll be able to deliver at my local hospital:)

Movies....I LOVE movies so this is easy. Baby boom, Working girl, Gorillas in the mist, you've got mail, what about Bob, ground hog day, Willow, Lord of the rings trilogy and I am legend. There are more but I can't think of any.

Books....most of the books I read are for information. Right now I'm reading one on hypnobirthing and the womanly art of breastfeeding. I've been practicing hypnobirthing during the day...because I don't have much else to do...lol!

Tv shows same as Lawmom but I'll add Veep and The good wife.
  • We are hanging in there. I was originally put on strict bed rest due to a short cervix. Bed Rest did what it was supposed to do and now my cervix is hanging in there! But now we are still on bed rest due to the baby not growing like she should be growing. I'll be 34 weeks monday and at that point if I go into labor again they won't stop it! Friday we have another growth scan to determine if induction is the best route at this point. It's been 10 weeks since I went on bed rest and now they are flying by!

I'm just finishing my first week of bedrest due to gestational hypertension. I was admitted to labor and delivery twice last week after my follow appointments with high BP so off to bedrest I went. This week hasn't been to bad. We had family over on Monday, a doctors appt Tuesday, the hubby worked from home Thursday, and another appointment today so all that certainly helped. Other than that I've been getting my FMLA and Short-term Disability paperwork started and coming to terms with all the changes.

I haven't dug into any books or movies yet....just trying to keep myself entertained with what's on TV during the day. I'll probably be sick of daytime TV soon enough though!

I'm currently 32+2, and looking like I'll be induced at 37 weeks. This is our first and are expecting a little girl who looks strong and healthy so far at 4lbs, 4oz.
  • I have been on modified bed rest for pre-e since 25 weeks. My Dr. was skeptical that I would make it to 34 weeks and here I am still going strong at 34+4. My Dr. plans to induce me at 37 weeks (6/16) and I am so nervous about the whole induction process.  I hope I continue to have a smooth road to 37 weeks.

I have been passing the time reading almost every Nicolas Sparks book I can get my hands on.  I just finished The Guardian and it was great!  I have also been watching House of Cards on Netflix.  If you don't have a Netflix membership I would highly recommend it.  I have been binge watching all kinds of shows and it really helps pass the time.

  • Today was my 36 week appointment. It was the best appointment ever! I was told I can stop taking my Procardia (which means I won't feel like a zombie all day and I'll be able to drive again!) plus I'm no longer on modified bedrest!!! I can "resume life as normal". Hip hip hooray!!! After 5 weeks of bedrest and yucky medication side effects, I'm so excited! I know several of yall have been on BR way longer than that. I will continue to pray for those on these check ins and still come by to see how yall are. Having some company via this board on those long lonely days was very helpful. I gave my midwife a hug in the middle of the appointment. lol.

She did check me. I am still dilated to a one but my cervical length is "less than three but more than two" and very soft. The baby is low... She could easily feel his head. With all these contractions and preterm labor symptoms I have, I asked her now that we are stopping my medication... Will I just go into labor tonight? Or do will it be a while? She said while anything could change overnight, based on what she sees today, she'd give it a week. Maybe two! I'm excited and nervous even though I'm a STM.
  • I am 28.5 weeks on modified bedrest. 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated. I have an 18-month-old toddler which makes modified bedrest very difficult. I am wondering if I will be able to get off bedrest. Does anyone have any suggestions, stories or advice? The doctors have given me many different outcomes which makes me think no one knows.
  • I am 32 weeks. I started receiving weekly progesterone shots at 25 weeks due to contractions and because I had pre term labor with my first at 29 weeks, thankfully with meds and strict bed rest I kept Herr in until 36 weeks. This time around i Had pre term labor at 28 weeks, they had to give me 24 hour iv magnesium in hospital to stop contractions. They also gave me 2 rounds of steroid shots. I got sent home on strict bed rest. I've continued with weekly progesterone shots and had a second round of steroids this past week.
I ended up l&d Sunday night with contractions 4 minutes apart but I was dehydrated, after a bag of iv fluids they got further apart thankfully. We had an ultrasound this week, baby is weighing 4lbs 8ozs already lol. Bed rest is tough though especially with a 3 year old and the fact that our families live in another country is really hard.
Our first goal was to get me to 32 weeks so I'm happy with that.

  • With my first pregnancy I was having contractions, dilated at 1.5cm and put on strict bed rest at 29 weeks. At 35.5 weeks my doctor took me off striict and said i still had to rest but could get up and move around more and I had her 4 days later.
I feel for you though because I'm on strict bed rest again since 28 weeks and I am now 32 weeks. I have a 3 year old and its is hard. I find its emotionally harder on me then her though. I had planned to do some really fun stuff with her before the baby came but that's out now.
When you get further along your doctor may allow you to do more.
