Vitamins (or, I'm a Moron)

I've managed to space over the course of the last 10 minutes. I'm positive I took my DHA but can't remember if I took my prenatal vitamin. What is worse do you think? Accidentally doubling up, or going a day without? (Also, my first pregnancy brain moment!)

  • I have only been taking my prenatals about 50% of the time for the past 4 or so weeks. I took them religiously up until then. I eat veggies and a pretty well balanced diet for the most part, I'm not worried about and I'm 100% sure one day without your prenatal isn't going to affect anything negatively.

  • I think you are fine if you miss a day. I've missed a few days and my little guy is growing just fine! I know of people who were allergic to them and never took them, and aside from her oldest being a brat her kids are perfect!
  • I'm not a doctor, but I don't think either will hurt you or the baby... But I forget mine all the time... Clearly I'm no good at remembering to take pills  :))
  • I forget all the time - probably better to just take tomorrow instead of doubling up.
  • Thanks, this was my thinking too. I'm mostly just laughing at how I can mean to do something then wonder 90 seconds later if I did that thing. :)
  • I never remember to take my prenatals. I don't know what I'd do if I ever had to be on some sort of daily medication. I should really set a daily alarm on my phone for a reminder.
  • I put all my pills in a little jar that I have to take that day. I try to space then out throughout the day, it make me feel like I absorbe them better. This way at at end of the day if there are any pills left in my jar I know I forgot to take some at some point that day.
  • My friend thought she was taking a prenatal vitamin for months before she realized she was only taking a prenatal DHA pill the entire time, her baby is perfect. I've missed mine every now and then too, baby seems fine!

  • Either way is fine. Your body removes the excess. It's not like you're taking 10 of them. Also, you get so much from food that I doubt missing a day matters. Prenatal vitamins are mostly crucial if you vomit a lot or if you have dietary restrictions or don't eat entire groups of food.

  • I forget all the time. That said, can't hurt to double up. I can guarantee you it is a HARD thing to OD on a prenatal! Vitamins are food.
  • I know moms who never took prenatal vitamins and their babies were fine.  Don't stress about it.  I remember maybe 75% of the time to take mine.  I almost always forget to take my probiotic and/or my B complex.

  • It sounds like me at times. Then, I'm bummed when there are more DHA pills left in the container when I'm out of prenatal vitamins pills. It happened to me twice. I'm just convinced that they put more DHA pills in the bottle rather than vitamins, lol. If I think I take them then second guess myself, I personally don't take more. I know that too much of certain vitamins isn't always the best thing. That's just me; you can always ask your doctor. There are women out there who have no prenatal care. If you accidentally skip a day, I'm sure you are fine.

    Ditto!! I got pregnant cause I never remembered to take the pill aaaand we were a little tipsy :D romantic right? Anyways I was bad about taking my prenatal at the beginning which is probably the most important time but everything is looking good for this baby!
  • Also, maybe try finding a pill that has DHA + prenatal and folic acid then you only have to remember to take one! I can't remember what brand mine is but I got it at a GNC store I think.
