Early induction

I've been diagnosed with Cholestasis. Not only did I start a new medication for it but I'm going to be induced at 37 weeks. Has anyone gone through this? What can I expect? Will my son have to be in the NICU right away? How long will we be in the hospital? What affect will this have on my baby?

    Only under special circumstances would your son have to be in the nicu. At 37 weeks babies are considered "full term" by a lot of doctors, so try not to worry about it. I've seen lots of moms over in the June groups who have had early babies and they did not require a nicu stay at all :) positive thoughts your way momma!

    My best friend just had a cs at 37 weeks for the same reason. Her little one was not in the nicu at all and they are going home after a normal amount of time for cs (3.5 days). Baby has been in her room most of the time they have been in there, only leaving for short periods for things like a bath. Hope that helps you relax a little.

    I'm likely being induced at 37 weeks due to high BP diagnosed at 31 weeks. They did give me steroid shots to help with her lung development and said if she were born now (33 weeks) she'd likely be perfectly fine.

    My friend had a c section at 37 weeks because she started showing signs of preeclampsia and the baby was perfectly healthy, no need to stay in the NICU. She left after 2 nights in the hospital.

    #2 naturally came on his own at 37 weeks. He was in the Nicu but not because he was earlier. He required surgery on part of his intestines. If not for that he would have been home with us when I came home.

    I just delivered at 35 weeks and we didn't need to go to the NICU at all. Everything we were told was if he had come at 37 weeks he would have needed no support. Even at 35 weeks our guy only needed oxygen for two minutes and then struggled to keep his glucose up for the first 24 hours and then Jaundice which was all treated and monitored from our room together and all because he came so early. At 37 weeks you will be good to go so don't worry!

    I am being induced this week (just a few days away!!!) because my baby has IUGR. We are expecting a few extra days with NICU because they want to monitor him to make sure there are no complications, but as long as he does well breathing and maintaining body temp we should be able to leave the hospital in a few days. Just have to wait and see how our little guy does on the outside! I'm hoping that everything goes well with your labor and you don't have to deal with any complications and that you and baby are doing great! Good luck!!

    Good luck!! I have no pieces of advice but from what other moms are saying I think you and baby will be ok. Thoughts and Prayers are being sent your way!

    34-37 weeks babies are considered late term premies. Most don't need to go to nicu, or need help breathing or ect. 37-40 weeks they are considered full term and 40+ are considered post terms. The risk of going past 37 with cholestasis are worse then not. But baby should be absolutely perfect! My doctor talks about taking this baby at 37 weeks simply because I make big babies.. It's kind of nerve wracking, but gods got them.

    Yes I was tested because of itchiness. It started the middle of last week and I thought I had it under control with medicated lotion but by Wednesday, I was fed up and had to see the dr. So glad I did; I'm on medication for it and I'm stoked beyond words that I get to be done with this pregnancy this much sooner. I so cannot wait to meet my sweet baby!!!! :)

    37 weeks is considered term but be prepared for some differences in wakefulness and readiness to breastfeed if that's your feeding plan. Babies born even at 37 weeks (and almost always if they're born before) can often "act like late pre-term". Maybe just to be prepared looks up "late preterm normal behavior". Best of luck!!
