Re: Tanning while Pregnant

  • I'm not sure tanning is safe even when you're NOT pregnant. What method are you talking about?

  • Speak to your doctor. Certain spray tans are apparently safe, but I don't know which ones since I've just accepted being a pale ginger at this point in my life. Laying out in the sun can lead to overheating especially while pregnant.

  • You can lay in the sun for short periods of time with sunscreen on if you make sure you don't overheat and stay hydrated. Just be warned that your skin might act crazy (burn easily, tan splotchy, etc) because of the hormones.

This. Don't tan. Melanoma, BTDT, again I say, don't tan. If you must be bronzed, use a self-tanner.
  • I live 5 minutes from the beach - not spending a significant amount of time there during the summer isn't an option.

That said, I'll be slathering on the SPF and bringing my little shade tent.  Definitely enjoy the sunshine, but I wouldn't make tanning your skin the end goal.

  • Keep in mind your skin is more sensitive to sunlight when pregnant. It usually takes me quite a bit of time in the sun to tan, but we spent an hour in the pool last weekend and look like i was outside all day.
  • I got a spray tan yesterday. My doctor laughed at me when I asked but said it was fine.
  • Definitely shouldn't use a tanning bed but yeah the sprays should be fine to use
  • You can tan, sunlight is good for the mood and vitamin D. As previous posters have said, use a high spf as skin is more sensitive and personally I'd say keep your face out of the sun, you could find you'll end up with what's know as the mask of pregnancy.

I just used a self tanner last night, if you get a spray tan you may want to wear a face mask so you don't inhale the spray. You might find that it smells funky on your skin and the colour may develop differently to when you weren't pregnant.
  • I am very blonde and if I don't have some color to my skin I look terrible. I spray tan... I buy mine from Sally's... There are a few different kind. They're all fairly safe as long as you don't coat yourself like those people that do the body building competitions... Lol.. Seriously tho... Anyways. They're instant bronzers too! And they last about a week. Good luck!
