Umbilical cord infection

My baby is only 5 days old. Yesterday I noticed a smell coming out of her belly button and some yellow discharge. The doctor prescribed neosporin on the site and an antibiotic orally - amox tr-k clv. I'm honestly very scared after reading about all the side effects. It sounds like a very strong drug...Has anyone given this antibiotic to their baby?

    Sorry to hear this,I pray your baby heals soon. Infection in a newborn is life threatening hence the need for antibiotics which benefits outweigh any potential side effect. Please give the drug to your LO and discuss your concerns with the Dr.
