Hi momas... this is my first post but ive been following since my pregnancy...
My baby boy is 14 weeks and has posterior plagiocephaly (the back of his head is very assymetrical) due to positioning in my uterus. We went to a pediatric neurosurgeon for consultation and he said my lo must sleep on his right side for the next 4-5 months. Its that or a helmet (helmets arent widely used where i am from-and this doctor does not recommend them).
Anyway, my baby is a bad sleeper as it is, and he hates sleeping on his side. He sleeps on his back. I tried a sleep positioner and rolling up a towel behind his back but he wakes up crying when he realizes he cant move around.
Any mamas with side sleepers... or anyone at all any advice to get him to sleep on his side? I am exhausted.......
Re: side sleepers
Since no one else has answered, I thought I would step in: I'm sorry you are feeling so exhausted! Did you ask your pediatrician or orthopedist or neurosurgeon for advice. It may be that they recommend a helmet our done other measure after all of you can't make side sleeping work.
I may get flamed for this, but have you considered cosleeping? Until recently my son slept with me. He almost always naturally ended up on his side facing me. If you do, please research safe cosleeping...I used no comforter and only one pillow when he was with me, and purchased a rail for our bed.
Lastly. Can you put a non breakable mirror or some other toy in his eyesight when he is on his side? Maybe that will make him happier to face that way.
Are you getting more sleep as lo is getting more used to the arrangement?
My neurosurgeon actually said that a helmet is like fitting a size 7 shoe on someone who is a size 8 for 20 hours a day... wasnt in love with the idea after that. We will probably go for a second opinion at some point if this doesnt work. I never tried co sleeping (wont yell at you for it :-p im not against it) but his crib is right up next to my bed so i do think he feels my presence to his right.
Lets just say ive given up on ever sleeping again for more than 3 hours........
