We all knew we were in for sleepless nights.. But how prepared??

So.. Who here is shocked by the lack of sleep and who is pleasantly surprised by actually getting more sleep then they anticipated? Every second night seems to be fairly good for me but I still struggle and I am so sick of hearing that I need to nap during the day when she sleeps because once she sleeps there's a hundred and one chores I need to do!! Any tips and tricks would be welcomed with open arms :)

My sleep depends on her lil tummy, if she has gas or is constipated then i'm up all day and night ready to pull my hair out lol, but i turned my entire schedule, i sleep at 7 am! So no "night" sleep for me, i hope this gets fixed before i go back to work lol

  • This time around the nights aren't too bad but it will catch up with me eventually.

I may be lazy but is there any way you can lay off the chores? Am I the only one who doesn't do anything other than tend to baby and make dinner?

Hope tonight is a good night!!

I feel the same. I can't sleep during the day because it's the only time I have to myself and to get crap done! My husband works crazy hours so sometimes I feel like a single parent.

My baby also has GERD so I cannot sleep if I wanted to. I'm constantly worried she's going to projectile vomit and choke to death. The other night she did vomit/choked and stopped breathing for a little bit. Pretty scary. So, every noise she made the rest of the night (which is A LOT because she is constipated too ) I jump up.
  • I really gave up on getting stuff done when baby is asleep. If I don't sleep when she does, in so exhausted I just can't. When she's content in her swing, that's when I get stuff done.
  • I feel fine. She naps early evening which I use as my relax time then when she wakes I'm either already doing my toddler's bedtime routine or I'll start it then while DH cares for her. When she's finally down for the night she's out for about 5hours, up for a long feed, burp, change, and then i cuddle with her so she goes back to sleep. Usually for another 3-4 hours. If my son gets up before I'm ready for the day I usually tell him to eat dry cereal and fruit...he occupies himself until I get up.
    That's a good 7 hours of sleep ^_^
Not much gets done in the house though....I clean up messes made by my son, do laundry, feed the animals, do the dishes, cook at least one meal, but no real cleaning. Baby's not content unless I'm holding her...sometimes I can get away with putting her in a carrier to free up my hands. The rest of my free time goes to caring for and playing with my toddler...which honestly isn't much time for him :/

It's way worse than I expected, but this too shall pass, I guess. DS is three weeks old and growing like crazy- he's now almost two lbs above his birth weight and about an inch and a half longer, and he's spent the past week and a half eating constantly. Just starting cracking down on a bedtime routine this week and it has made a HUGE difference. Went from him waking up every 60-90 minutes to getting a whole 4 hour block in last night! Hoping it sticks...
