Beach

im taking my baby to the beach soon she's 2 months.. Any tips? Or anything I should be warned about?

Re: Beach

  • What are your plans with baby? Water play, sunbathing, walking along the beach, or playing in the sand? Babies under 6 months shouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time. They also don't recommend sunscreen for infants. Definitely stay under a tented/shaded area and keep baby well hydrated by nursing or feeding often. Be careful with baby wearing in the summer heat, as babies can overheat very easily and dehydration signs can be confused with fatigue and fussiness.

I actually would just recommend you wait till baby is 6 months, but it's your choice.

  • I'm taking my baby on a week long beach vacation in July. My plan is to keep her in the shade - in a tent or in this little shaded sled thing my mom made to pull her around on the sand in. You can also purchase all natural baby safe sunscreen from a naturopath, so I'm going to get that as well. Other than that I'm just going to bring her into the cottage every hour or two to cool down and keep her well fed.

    Good luck!!
  • I brought my 2 month old camping and to the beach. We just found a shady spot on the grass in the shade where she did some tummy time on a blanket and I nursed. Didn't take her in the sand or water and didn't stay long.

  • You could also pick up a small fan to ensure adequate air flow if it's hot.
