crotch ache :(

So I did a search but didn't find much beyond lightning crotch and that's not what's going on...

Anyone else experiencing a real bad crotch ache? Think back ache pain, just in the crotch. It began around 24 weeks occasionally when I'd walk longer distances. It is becoming more frequent now.. Basically any time I walk at all. I've noticed the same pain but intensified with certain activities such as pushing something on the ground forward with my foot, putting pants on or going up stairs. Most recently it is when I turn over in bed. It doesn't really bother me just sitting or standing.

I'm inclined to think it is muscular... But it really is just a very bad ache. Its not "pressure" though. I've tried looking it up online and I find people saying the felt pressure like the baby was going to fall out and that's not it.

If you've had this what was it and did you do to help it!?

Thanks ladies!

Maybe it could be round ligament. Here is a link I found off Google. Feel better mama! And let your doctor know about it.  https://www.parents.com/pregnancy/my-body/aches-pains/pelvic-pain-pregnancy/
Always hold on to hope ❤

  • I'm having that and it's pelvic pain. My doctor said there is t much that can be done. I'm going to physio on Monday. I'm now off work because of it.
  • I have experiencing the same thing since about 24 weeks. I thought i just walked to long one day and over extended, but it just keeps getting worse and more frequent. I used to push my laundry basket with my foot and cant do it anymore. I would love to hear if there is anything i can do for some relief!
  • I have this as well but I've been under the impression that it was round ligament pain.
  • Yep...RLP...sucks! Feels like you've been riding a bike non-stop with the hardest seat in the world!
  • I'm also having RLP but this is more like a steel toed soccer cleat kicking me in the crotch. I can't lift a foot to even slide it into a flip flop. Getting in and out of the car takes my breath away and sometimes it hurts so much I want to vomit.
  • I had a really bad strained muscle type pain on the right side only. I think that it was from like swinging my leg to get leverage to get out of bed. I started to use my arms and turn more before trying to sit up and it's slowly going away.
  • I had the same thing happen to me gmd88 - it was actually terrible from 25-29 weeks and it just recently let up (though turning in bed is still awful). What helped me a lot was a molded pillow between my legs (Amazon sells all kinds). I think that plus putting your legs up a bit may help. A lot of it is just the fact that you have a ton of extra blood circulating everywhere, which may be the likely cause.
  • I've been having this same pain but in the pelvic area, where it hurts to walk too much, turn over when I'm in bed, push something like a bucket/anything with my feet or even bend down.

Oh my gosh! I've totally been dealing with this - especially worse putting on pants and different positions lying down at night. My OB finally told me what it was today and she said it was due to the pubic symphysis starting to relax/separate in preparation for the baby to pass through the birth canal. I knew lax joints were a part of later pregnancy but I didn't think about the joint that's my crotch!!!
  • I completely understand! I thought it was just me ! I'm 29 weeks & it has been going on for a while. I've been doing pelvic floor tilts& they seem to help. Hurt terribly bad @ 1st but now the muscles are stretched & stronger. Helps w/ lower back pain as well. Try it. Hope it helps you too !
  • It sounds like you are having the pelvic bone pain, when your pelvic bones start to separate for birth.. Get a prenatal cradle (google it :) ) and it does help! Asked my doctor about the same thing and she recommended that. :)
  • I have the same thing and I have searched the Internet and talk we the doctor they said maternity belt (which helps but only when standing) the only time I am 100% pain free is the swimming pool...good luck and at least we are all almost done

I have it really bad too and I don't know what to do to help it. I've had it since around 25 weeks and i am almost 32 weeks...going to dr today. Maybe she will help me. It sucks to not be able to push things with your feet, even light things.

Thanks ladies! Sorry to hear you're going through the same stuff! I went to my OB today for a routine visit and asked about it. He seemed perplexed... Checked/pushed on a location in the front kind of pubic area to see if that was it and although tender it didn't cause the pain I've been having and he also pushed on areas in my butt which also didn't trigger the pain. He said it's clearly muscular-skelatal stuff and to rest and not do activities that hurt... Though that's becoming everything..

I want to clarify that the pain is inbetween my legs.. Not towards the front or back. Would a belt or pelvic cradle still help? I'll look into the pelvic tilts too but I asked my OB any strengthening/physical therapy and he thought I'd just aggravate it more since I'm already in pain... I don't know
  • I think the prenatal cradle would help, they also have the prenatal cradle plus, which has a pubic area support, you can also look into the V2 supporter, which is mostly for the pubic area, minus the belly support. I've been wearing my belt for a few days for a few hours at a time, no more pains :)

Warning tho: the v2 and the prenatal cradle plus both look horridly terrible lol! You can view them at www.perinatalcares.com I ordered mine from EBay, much cheaper.
  • I had that pain just today actually. For now I'm gonna assume it's because I'm having to be on my feet all day passing meds at work and then I ran some errands. Usually I get to sit down more often and I'm fine. Hopefully for all of us it gets easier.
  • No idea if this is helpful but I've had debilitating pain down there since week 12 and I got sent to a physiologist, who (after various ultrasounds) diagnosed it as three distinct but related problems:

    1. Pain between the legs, near the groin area: tendonitis. For this I've been doing physical therapy 2 x per week going on 3 months now. In general, it seems to have helped minimize the tendonitis, but not the other two areas.

    2. severe pain along the bone near the bottom of my butt, both when being active and to the touch : a pelvic stress fracture. Physical therapy unfortunately hasn't helped this at all. I've been on a "modified bed rest" regime for months, doesn't feel like it's helping but the goal is to prevent the hairline fracture from becoming a full fracture, and at least that seems not to have happened. I can walk/stand for up to three hours per day per the restrictions. The rest of the time I'm supposed to sit with legs elevated (I actually do find when I sit in a chair normally, I am in great pain when I shift weight or stand again, so that rec seems to make sense).

    3. Front pain in the bikini area: pubic symphysis, which many people have already described above so I won't. For this I did the same PT and also acupuncture. As far as I can tell, nothing helps and it can be excruciating. A sacroilial joint band (I got mine from a medical supply shop since insurance covered it that way, but they sell them on Amazon) helps if you have long periods of standing - like at a cocktail party or museum - and definitely when walking around; it fits easily under clothing. Agreed that rolling over in bed or getting up is the pits, but my physical therapist recommended squeezing my knees together (as if with an imaginary pillow between them) as I roll/sit up, and that greatly diminishes the lightning bolts of pain.

I found nothing on google too, hence why I'm oversharing all this. Hopefully some combination of the above tips can help you find some relief. Assuming it continues, you should definitely try to track down a specialist since pubic symphysis and pelvic stress fractures can result in needing to deliver via c-section ... Though my OB and physiologist are waiting to make that call until closer to the time, around 35 weeks.

Final tip: I hate to sound like an infomercial but the Snoogle changed my life. For months I couldn't sleep through the night even with a body pillow, because the searing pain would wake me up if I rolled over. A friend gave me her hand-me-down Snoogle, and I find it so comfortable I never have to change position or roll over, so I actually sleep through the night (minus all the bathroom trips).

  • I just started dealing with really bad pubic symphysis pain. I'm 39 weeks so that's relatively lucky I guess. Just wondering if anyone has had advice about this for late pregnancy. Or how it relates to c section as pp mentioned.
  • I've had the same thing! It's awful. Haven't yet found anything to help.

  • Oh man! Yes I've had the same thing since around 26 weeks and it hasn't gone away. My doctor said it is most likely from hips spreading causing all kinds of hurt down under! The only relief I've found is sleeping with a pillow between my knees. Hope it gets better soon!
  • My baby will be 3 weeks on Wednesday and I STILL have the crotch pains! Off and on during the day. It sucks big time
  • I'm from the Sept group, I'm 34w, and dealing with the same pain. I've yet to find anything to help! My husband gets a giggle when I say it feels like I got kicked in the hoo haa... Lol its really not funny though, ouch!
  • I woke up on Saturday and seriously thought a bowling ball had dropped out of my crotch! I just assumed it was the moment she dropped. When I'm laying down I don't feel the pressure, but when I stand up it feels like she sitting right on my pelvic bone. I plan to ask my doctor about it on Wed, but I assume it's just a normal step in pregnancy (FTM-37 weeks).
  • I've had the crotch pain since 20ish weeks but the last week or so it has been constant- the only time I get relief is sitting/bouncing on my yoga ball. Try it!
  • I have been dealing with this pain off and on since my 20th week. Dr said its my ligaments stretching. I'm now at 38weeks; how much more can my ligaments stretch... Geesh. Totally know the feeling. Can't even lift my leg to tie my shoes. Feels like my insides down there are tearing :(
