third time mom, but I just can't seem to remember what I actually used and didn't even need at the hospital. I have my essentials packed up, (I prefer my own deodorant, tooth paste and shampoo vs the hospitals.) with my youngest I was in the hospital off and of 45 days out of 60, so I was always packing and re packing. But I thought it would be a good idea to start a list on here the things everyone found helpful or might find helpful. (For first time moms and on)
As I said, I like my own hygiene products. Going to bring my own towel this time.. Found out the hard way that you need multiple hospital towels to dry off. Lol. And there not soft like mine! My own pillow and throw blanket. (Big fan of soft and fuzzy) My own pads for sure! I use there's the first day because those big pads are needed.. With my first I had to use them a lot cause of natural birth you do bleed more then with a c section. I'm just stuck I suppose.. I want to have my bags all ready.. (Hygiene stuff is all ready because I got all travel size things that I don't use every day anyways) but I'm limited on what clothes fit now. Oh! And change/dollar bills. Because I want a cappuccino so bad and when she comes out I'm having someone go get it! (All my appetite fades right after birth so no need for munchies... But in the event I get hospitalized before she's born, I will have it to) What's everyone else planning on bringing?
Oh! And for baby... I'm delivering at a different hospital this time, and I'm not sure what they provide.. The one where I had my oldest 2 daughters.. They had diapers and wet wipes, bottles of formula, pacifiers, receiving blankets, and belly button cleaning supplies.. Then they sent me home with a care package. A mini diaper bag, diapers, wet wipes, bottles of formula. And everything that they provided at the hospital, plus all the paper work and ect all put neatly into this diaper bag. It was cute and sweet.. Do other hospitals do that? I don't know what I'll need to bring. I plan on doing a tour before hand, and if they provide all that then I'll just bring the outfits I been swooning over for months.
For me: - socks and slippers - pillow, blanket, eye mask, ear phones - flowy clothes (tank dress, tank tops, cover up) for up to three days and a robe - towel and basic hygiene things - nursing pads and nipple cream, pads For baby: - preemie outfit and newborn outfit (our baby is small) - blanket, hat, mittens For husband: - pillow, blanket - clothes for up to three days - change for vending machine and snacks - magazine - towel and basic hygiene things
This is what we have for the hospital bag when I go into labor BUT we also put a back up bag in the trunk just in case we have to stay longer or the baby stays in the hospital. So a garbage bag for the dirty clothes and another set of clothes for me that I put in our closet that my husband knows to grab if I stay in the hospital longer, and a diaper bag with some things for the baby to make her feel comfortable at the hospital stay.
The hospital provides a lot of stuff and I live 8mins from the hospital...so not much for us.
For me- 2 pjs Outfit to go home in Hygiene stuff - toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, mousse, lil bit of makeup, travel stuff for shower, deodorant etc. Vitamins Towel Phone charger Nursing pads, lanolin, few nursing bras Hand pump just in case Change and ones (good idea!) Extra bag for gifts etc
For baby- Newborn outfit 0-3 outfit Hat, mittens, socks Blanket for going home
We might bring the laptop to watch some movies for me and DH.
My bag is almost all packed! I'm planning on using the mesh underwear, pads, diapers, wipes, and baby clothes provided by the birth center. Then I'm packing:
For me:
- Toiletries: travel-size facial cleanser, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hair gel, hair ties, and clippies
- A small bit of makeup in case I feel like wearing some
All great lists! I have a couple extra things I'll be bringing this time around...
Nail scissors and file for baby. The hospital won't cut the baby's nails for you, and my first would not keep mittens on, so he ended up with scratches all over his face before we got home and were able to cut them.
If you plan on using a pump, bring it. The lactation specialist at the hospital can give you a lot of pointers on your pump specifically for you...very helpful.
We didn't find out until we were there that our hospital didn't provide wipes...they used wet almost paper towels. I found this so odd...but apprently it's common, so this time around we will be bringing out own wipes to make diaper changes a little easier.
All good lists! I read them and I'm like oh yea I need that to! Lol. The hospital here didn't use wipes either.. They had the harsh feeling paper things, but when they got wet they were soft. I guess they did it so you can use warm water and have them not be cold? I want to have my bag 100% ready. But I just can't. Ugh. Lol I need to buy all new stuff and then just not touch it. Haha
Great lists. I keep on seeing the things that I have missed in my suitcase (that is partially packed). I think everything that I have on my list, everyone has already mentioned. But I am stealing some of the things on everyone else's list! Thanks!
So an item that I didn't think about but I will now totally bring is a swimsuit for my man. I plan on laboring in the hospitals shower and if he wanted to join me the RN recommended him wear a suit so he could rub my back and help me out with out getting his clothes wet or feeling awkward around the RNs
These are good lists. Who else is having a c section? I didn't have a planned one with my youngest so I didn't pack anything differently. Is there something I should bring that I didn't need (or think I needed) last time.. Just from my previous birth experiences I have learned certain things that aren't a must, but help (ie, chap stick. And personal care products) and of course I discovered after my last which was the c section, I can wear my own pads and have everything be cool. So lol there's that.
I need to start packing soon... But I just can't. Lol. I have very few clothes that fit so I can't pack those.. And I will get burst of motivation.. And then the second I go to do something I'm overwhelmed and tired. I'm scheduled for the 7th of July. So long as she waits till then I could put it off untill The 6th. Lol but you never know.
