Birth certificates and social security cards

Can anyone explain to me the process after the baby is born for his birth certificate and social security number ? Do they do it at the hospital or how does this work !? Sorry ftm here lol !

    Yup. All papers are filled out at the hospital.

    You will fill out all the paperwork to file in the hospital. SS cards will be sent in the mail, birth certificates will vary state to state on their process to obtain them.
    DS #1 Born 01/23/09
    Married 03/18/10
    DS #2 Born 05/19/11
    DS #3 Due 07/26/15

    My ob gave me the paper work for the birth certificate already . She just said to fill out as much as i could , and mail it in . So its already at the hospital and they will fill the rest out when the babys born .

    Social security cards get started in the hospital. all birth certificates vary from state to state the hospital will help you with that.

    My hospital's website has all the information for how both of these are handled. Have you tried looking at your hospiyal's website to see what they say?

    Just a note, I was told to go ahead and order multiple copies of the birth certificate because it's a huge pain having to request copies later!

    For DS, in Michigan, i his birth certificate was filled out in the hospital, and we were sent his ss card in the mail pretty soon after he was born. I had to wait 6 weeks before I could request his birth certificate. I had to pay to get it.

    California is the same.

    SS card came in the mail. I'm in CA and here the hospital submits the birth info to the county recorder then once it's ready I can go to the county recorder and they actually print the certificates out while you wait it just takes a few min. There are also mail options here but it requires a notarized form and a bunch of other extras so I always just pick it up in person. If I remember correctly I had to show them her SS card for proof of identity along with my DL. That's just for CA.
