18 weeks and haven't felt movement

This is my first, and I've read sometimes it can take until 20 weeks to feel movement - but still makes me nervous as I have two more weeks until the anatomy sono. Anyone else in the same boat? Friends have told me that they all felt the baby move around 16 weeks. #justkickmealready

  • My placenta is at the top of my uterus. Doctor said it will take longer for me to feel it.
  • Also, it can feel like gas bubbles. They don't really feel like kicks for a while unless you know what to look for :)
  • What all these ladies have said. I didn't feel movement with DS until just past 20 weeks. He was quite the kicker once he started (some major ouch moments). You will get there.
  • thanks for making me feel better ladies. and very true, I'm not sure what it feels like so it's possible it has happened and I didn't know. sometimes I'll lay very still and feel sort of a pulsing in my abdomen, but then I realize that's probably just my heart beating with excitement/anxiety
  • It'll happen soon! For me it feels like gas bubbles or more often a twitching muscle.

Yes! That's exactly how I describe it too!
  • I agree with the PP. I don't even remember when I started to feel movement from DD since it started so subtle. Don't worry.
On the other hand OP I LOVE your sn!

  • I will be 18 weeks soon and I haven't felt movement yet and have been nervous as well. I emailed my friend who is due the same time as me (one day apart!), this is her third and she hasn't felt movement yet either. That made me feel a lot better so hopefully it helps you too! It's normal to worry but also normal not to feel anything yet. Still hard not to think about!! :)
  • I'm on my third baby and still am not sure if I'm feeling the baby move or gas bubbles
  • For first time moms it can take 22-24 weeks to feel baby. Don't stress!! I am on baby #4 and still don't feel her moving! I am 16 weeks. Don't stress, you could also have an anterior placenta, which cushions babys movements and makes it harder to feel. Believe me, you will feel that baby when it's big enough!

I've rewatched Firefly at least twice during this pregnancy alone.  Browncoat for life y'all.  Bf told me I looked like Kaylee a few weeks ago and I cried because I was so happy.  (A little annoyed he nixed that name from the girl's list though.)

  • I felt the first movement I believe today and I am 17 weeks. I was not sure if they were the baby but I think it was. I felt three pops or pokes an then it stopped then 10 minutes later felt another pop it was the best feeling!

That's one I could watch over and over again too! DH and I make other people watch it too! I'm a huge Joss fan! Have you watched Dollhouse?
  • @kmkrushi I haven't but I really like Joss Whedon as well.  I've been told I need to watch Dollhouse, just haven't gotten around to it.  Perhaps it will be a maternity leave thing.

  • I am pregnant with my third and 17 weeks. I have felt a few flutters but barely and I still can't tell if it's baby or gas lol

18 weeks here and no movement either, well not that I know of. I'm really nervous to feel it because I'm crazy and think I won't like it. The whole process creeps me out but I'm trying to be a good sport! I also know that all of this will change once I know the feeling and I'll just look back and laugh at how silly my mind is. Lol
  • I'm 18 weeks with my second, I felt the normal gas bubble/muscle twitch type things at around 16 weeks and now I'm getting more kicking than bubbles, I can only really feel it if I get a good jab somewhere sensitive. I felt movement starting with my first around 18-20 weeks but I was very tiny and I'm very in tune with my body so am able to pick up the subtle movement easily
  • I'm 18 weeks today and still haven't felt anything either. Hopefully soon!!
  • I'm lurking (hiiiii) but I didn't feel much of anything until around 26 weeks, and even then, it was pretty random. I remember being in my anatomy scan at 21 weeks and the tech saying "she's elbowing you, can you feel it?" and awkwardly saying "...no." It was very odd because I could see her kicking and moving but couldn't feel anything at all. Your OB won't have you start watching movement until about 28-30 weeks. Nothing to worry about at all :)
  • With my first it took until 25 weeks to really notice the movement. Definitely just thought it was gas or something else before then. Pregnant with my second now and I'm 16 weeks today. I've only felt very subtle movement and have to be lying perfectly still and calm for a while in order to feel it. No one can feel it from the outside yet. Once you can feel unmistakable kicking you are going to start realizing how hard it is to sleep with something moving around so much inside you! At least that's when I felt most movement. Happened during the day too but my movement seemed to lull her to sleep most of the time.
  • 18w4d haven't felt Anything but had my anatomy scan which showed placenta at the top - cushioning the kicks. I saw her kick and love a lot but My baby is kicking that which is why I can't feel them until they're stronger so don't stress!

19 weeks today and I haven't felt anything that I'm aware of. FTM so I have no idea if I've been feeling her or not. It's probably still early. I have my anatomy scan on Thursday which I'm excited and scared about. At my last apt my doctor was having a hard time getting her heart beat because she was kicking and punching all around...she even asked if I could feel anything yet and I said no. I'm sure once it happens I'll know. I can't wait but at the same time having a living thing growing inside me still does freak me out. It'll happen soon enough.
  • I'm just 18 weeks, 3rd baby and JUST starting to feel some movement!!! Yesterday at the dr it was hard to get the heartbeat because he was moving around so much but I couldn't feel that. :)
  • I'm the OP and just felt movement! Stomach started aching in a strange way on the way home from work so I laid down as soon as I got home to rest...a little while later I felt a series of small pops/kicks! seemed to move a few inches across my belly too. my husband pushed in on my stomach and felt the sensation as well (and teared up). Now I know what everyone means when they say you'll know it when you feel it...definitely never felt this before and I loved it!!
