Restless legs

Anybody else dealing with terrible restless legs at night? Any magical solutions out there? I had the same problem with my first, and it just got worse and worse until he was born. Dreading the same fate this time around!

Re: Restless legs

  • I just got this last night.....going to try a warm bath before bed tonight. Otherwise a mommy friend told me the chiro was able to help with her's when she was pregnant! It's SUCH a weird feeling!!!!!

  • Yep, I have it every night and it's insanely frustrating! Usually a warm shower and massaging my soles helps a little, but nothing helps as much as just walking it off until it finally goes away. Had it before pregnancy too, but it's worse now :-(

My doctor told me to drink 1 Gatorade throughout the day and to eat a banana before bed, has worked 100% for me so far. The first two days I had a banana at breakfast and then at night and from then on just 1 banana and I thank god it worked. I've been getting no sleep

I wonder what the gatorade and banana does for RLS? Did you ask her? I'll be looking into that for sure.
  • Yes! If I forget to take my prenatal vitamin and iron supplement this happens to me. I wonder if the iron supplement is what helps?

He said the magnesium and potassium in both help a lot since they can't prescribe the RSL medication while pregnant. I hate medication so this is much better in my opinion
  • My doctor told me to take unisom and it worked, but then I was groggy the next day, so I only take every now and then when I don't have to get up in the morning.
  • Good ideas ladies! Anemia must play a role I guess. Will try to force down a banana today - always averse to those during pregnancy but it would be worth it if it helps!
  • Going to give the banana and Gatorade a try!!! I was all good then I got a prenatal massage and have been having in just one leg ever since!!
  • I feel you. It's like someone is sneaking up on me and jabbing a needle in my leg! But I did notice improvement when I started having a banana for breakfast.
  • I was experiencing this last night! I'm not experiencing the prickly feeling but more of just a very uncomfortable itchy feeling it horrible thank god it only lasted a little while but I was forced to watch a movie standing. Not fun.

I think it's the potassium or lack off, hence the banana's :-)
  • @mybabynumber2 either way, it works!
  • I tried the bananas and Gatorade the last couple of nights and it works! Thank the lord!!

Had the worst restless legs ever last night! Ate a banana, but didn't have any gatorade in the house. The banana itself didn't work, as far as I could tell. I still suffered for a few hours before finally falling asleep. Will need to try the gatorade tomorrow
  • I tried the garorade thing the last few days and im guessing because of all the sugar I found myself running to the bathroom A LOT!! Not sure which is worse A. legs that wont sit still or B. Not being able to leave my house because I have to be by a toilet ; )
  • My friend swears by Icy Hot. I bought a pair of compression stockings and they seemed to help me!
  • This is going to sound really weird and pervy, please don't take me the wrong way, I'm just trying to help lol. Orgasm in my experience is the best relief for RLS. I thought I was crazy when i realized this worked so well, but i googled it and apparently there is actual correlation between the release of hormones and the relief of RLS.
