We saw a new pediatrician who suggests a (half dose of an adult capsule) probiotic every other day for all of her babies. I've never heard of this. Any input?
My now 1 year old had rough reflux and a bad patch of colic. I read a few studies about probiotics helping so I asked the doc. He okayed it and had read the same studies. We used culterelle (think that's the spelling) kids that is like a crystal light drink mix but flavorless and he got half a pack a day in a bottle and I swear it seemed to help. I also give my older kids a whole pack whenever they have tummy issues.
Doesn't sound bad. My baby is so gassy she's so antsy and wiggly. Doctor suggested that for her so she could pass gas easily. Maybe your doctors is just taking the precaution.
DD is definitely having gassy/fussy issues. A friend goes to this same pediatrician and has a way more holistic mindset than I do, and she swears by it too. (Her daughter is a month older than mine.) They suggested half a capsule of Kyodophilus (sp?). My anxiety is such that I get nervous giving her anything at all.
The dr also suggested apple cider vinegar/water for her acne because it's so bad I thought she had a rash and took her in immediately. Of course when the dr suggested it I came home and tried it out on myself first to see what it would do. (Hint: Don't use it on any acne that is broken skin. OUCH.)
We use an infant specific probiotic that has to be ordered via Amazon. It's amazing and has completely helped our little guys digestion. It has numerous species in it and we only need 1/4 tsp per day. It's made by Klaire Labs and is called Ther Biotic. It is pricey; but well worth it. That, combined with mylicon gas drops has literally saved my sanity. He's 4 weeks and happy as a clam now.
