November 2015 Moms

Heartbeat, Boy or Girl?

So, we heard the heartbeat today and it was around 150. Boy or girl? My friends mostly say boy and that is what I'm hoping for.

From the moment I held you in my arms, I knew it was meant to be.

I adore her smile,
I cherish her hugs,
I admire her heart.
But most of all,
I love that she is my daughter.

Old wives tale. ;) I think it states that slower heart rates are boys.

  • Both my kids have had heartbeats in the 150s right around the 16-17 week mark. First was a girl. This one is a boy.

  • All of my boys were low 150s this baby at 15 weeks dropped to 150s also. But it's an old wives tale.
  • Lol I know. But it's always fun to guess. :)

  • Myyyyyyth. I don't waste my time on guessing games of strangers' babies' sex.
  • Both of my girls were in the high 160's. We found out at our anatomy scan today we are having a boy, his heart rate was 139. It was in the 150's the first time we heard it at 8 weeks. I get that it is fun to guess but, I agree with it being an old wives tale and to just wait until your anatomy scan. It's much more emotional when you find out.
  • Hahah @EllaStaxx my thoughts exactly!

People have REALLY low standards for entertainment these days.
  • Every single one of the wives tales said we were having a girl... Its a boy! :)

  • Lighten up? Do you approach pregnant strangers in the grocery store and say, "I bet you're having a.... Girl!" ? That's approximately what these posts ask us to do. Not fun for me. Not fun for the majority of us.
  • Why would you comment if you didnt find it entertaining? The post title was clearly about guessing the sex based on heartbeat. If you think its senseless why even waste your time reading. Instead why not go to a more interesting topic? She didnt approach you in a store. She asked on a forum

Ijs..... Its unecessary negativity. If she wants to guess her baby's sex based on how gassy she is during pregnancy or any other random stuff. Let her be. Why rain on her parade?

  • Because if you use the search function you'll see that we get piles of these posts based on old wives' tales every week and not one of them serves any real purpose. They just clog up the board.

Actually, we took a poll on whether or not it is fun to guess the sex of stranger's babies. Only 18 of 133 respondents said they find it fun. That's 13.5% of this community.
It's actually 13.5% of the people who took the poll, not a percentage of the Bump community as whole. So, more people who don't like guessing the sex took the poll.

As a first-time mom (one who has a PhD and has traveled worldwide, etc.), some of the old wives' tales can be entertaining.

I don't understand why community members would comment so negatively on innocuous posts. Isn't it easier to ignore the posts that are irrelevant to you, and comment on the ones you can productively (and, dare I say, positively) contribute to?

We're all in this together. Why not help everyone feel welcome?

Where did I say the bump community as a whole? Please don't put words in my mouth. I'm glad to hear you enjoy these games. Now we have 19 respondents who enjoy it. Sorry to say, but you're still in the minority.
  • Sooooo jumping back in to the main topic. my LO heartbeat has been 137-143. I think that is teetering on the edge. I find out on june 15 so im excited to see. Im also excited to see who was the most "agressive" partner

It was much easier to ignore it until old wives tales, examine my child's genitals, why am I not showing yet, and look at my cute bump posts took up 75% or more of the 1st and 2nd pages of this board.  Almost without exception these were posted by women who had not participated in the community by posting anything previously.  I was live and let live until these kinds of posts began choking out discussions that were informative or people asking for support.

  • @shortiebs when you say aggressive partner... Do you mean who is responsible for the sex of the baby? As it's always the male sperm that determines the sex of a child
  • There is one about if the woman is more aggressive in bed its a boy and vice versa its a girl.... Something like that. I think that one is too funny. So i think it will be something fun to tease my husband about if im the more aggressive partner :p
