yeast infection

I hear yeast infections are more common during pregnancy and I've already gotten my first. :( Doctor prescribed monistat. Anyone else had one yet while preggers and if so what you use to treat?

Re: yeast infection

Yes I used to have chronic yeast all the time and used to put garlic up there lol. Just didn't know if that would be safe so I'm doing the monistat. But it is gross lol.
  • Not yet but I am prone to them, as my ObGyn knows so we discussed it. She is okay with both Monistat 7 and Diflucan (prescription pill taken every 72 hours.) of course, listen to your doctor but I hope you feel better soon!

Also, only wear cotton panties and always make sure not to sit in a wet bathing suit. If you have been working out and are sweaty for some reason, make sure that you dry off and change your underwear frequently. Again, All cotton all the time.

Thanks @BostonBaby1! I'll be glad when I finish the monistat and I'll be sure to keep everything breathey down there lol. I'm prone to them too unfortunately. Glad we can still use monistat!
  • I found out I had one at my first OB appointment (8 weeks) and I have never had one before.  The doctor gave me a prescription for a medication (not an OTC) but it says not not use it in the first three months of your pregnancy so she told me just to hold onto it and start using at at 12-13 weeks.
  • I have a yeast infection from antibiotics and Monistat makes things worse for me
  • I've had three so far, after never having had any in years. Treated with Terazol and Gynazol.

Though it is commonly used to treat yeast infections in non-pregnant women, Diflucan is considered NOT SAFE during pregnancy. Just wanted to point that out. Diflucan is a pregnancy risk category D which means that it is not considered safe to take while pregnant. My OB said Monistat suppositories are safest for pregnant women with yeast infections.
  • Taking a probiotic can help keep everything in balance. Also, I go the natural route and use a clove of garlic when I start feeling a yeast infection coming on. My midwife gave it the thumbs up during pregnancy and prefers it to harsher medications and drugs.
  • Unfortunately I'm prone to them and got my first while pregnant right around 13 weeks. When I wasn't pregnant I would take diflucan because i absolutely hated using monistat, but my doctor told me that while pregnant the only safe treatment is monistat, so I ended up using that. Surprisingly it wasn't as bad as I had remembered. I actually took unisom the first few nights of using the monistat just because I wanted to make sure I was able to fall asleep before any burning kicked in (unisom is totally safe while pregnant btw). The only other thing that my doctor told me is that you can only use a 5 or 7 day treatment when pregnant, anything that is less than 5 days is too strong for our bodies right now, and I could only find 7 day treatments in the store. Good luck and feel better!! I know they are awful :(
  • I had one, doctor told me to get canestan 7 day
  • Had one a month ago around 18 weeks. My OB said it was "a bad one" and told me to get the monistat (or generic) 7 day vaginal suppositories and to stay away from the 1,3, and 5 day treatments because they would likely not clear it up. He also said if I was 20 weeks or later he'd be okay prescribing Diflucan, but I wasn't there yet!! I'm now 22w3d and it hasn't returned.
I'm very careful about staying in cotton undies now and changing out of my gym clothes right when I get home.
  • I've had chronic yeast infections since I was a teenager. Other than using diflucan and
Monistat, which I'm all to familiar with, I opt to take a probiotic daily. Completely natural and safe. I use Acidophilus and take the ten billion active culture one. Since I'm super prone I take like three pills because I can sneeze and catch a yeast infection, but one pill should suffice. My midwife approves as well. Give it a try much safer for baby than diflucan and less messy than monistat. Hope it helps.
