Babies first cold

My babe is two months two weeks and last weekend my husband came down with a cold. Now nugget has the saddest little cough and mild congestion. I called and spoke with the nurse at my pediatrician and they didn't sound worried. But it just breaks my heart that he's not feeling well and I can't help. He doesn't really want to be put down. I've been wearing him a lot today, I think being upright helps with the congestion. He's all smiles when he's awake. But I'm letting him sleep as much as he needs to. Anybody else's babes have their first colds already?

Re: Babies first cold

  • My LO had her first cold a couple weeks ago, at 8 weeks. She was all smiles, but just kept coughing and sneezing. I ran the humidifier in her bedroom and held her a lot, too. Just make sure to check for a fever periodically and nurse or give a bottle slightly more frequently. My LO got over it in about five days, but it was hard to watch her struggle through those few days.

  • My baby had his first cold around 4 weeks because his older brother had a cold. He got over it really fast, only lasted a few days. He's also been in daycare since he was 6 weeks, and now he's 13 weeks and just got another cold. The pediatrician told me if he doesn't have a fever and he's still eating and peeing/pooping normally, then he's fine. I use a humidifier in his room, some baby vapor rub, saline in his nose, and pedialite if needed.
