Babies: 9 - 12 Months

how long will he Crawl backward before going forward?

DS has been crawling backward/scooting backward for weeks and cannot figure out how to go forward. I know he is getting close.. I crawl around the floor trying to show him and try to help him move his legs etc. But still nothing..

How long did your DC go backward before figuring out how to move forward?

Is there anything else I can do to teach him?

Re: how long will he Crawl backward before going forward?

  • That's funny, DD has been 'scooting' backwards (pushing her arms up and then laying her legs flat to slide backwards) for about 5 weeks now - about 2 days ago she started finally sometimes moving her hands/knees (still backwards) in a crawl motion - and then just yesterday she was able to do maybe one or two 'forward' motions. She still doesn't quite have the forward crawling but I'm willing to bet it'll happen any day now that she can do one or two... we'll see. I feel bad because she gets SO frustrated!! Just wanted to let you know you're not alone :)

  • thanks.. DS gets soo frustrated too and I feel bad for him so I want to "help" in some way. I know he will get it eventually.
  • I don't think there's anyway to teach them, they just eventually figure things out themselves. DS crawled backwards for about a month until he got forwards...hth

  • DD has been doing the same exact thing.  I can tell she gets frustrated sometimes but I think it's just one of those things they discover on their own.  I always put lots of toys in front of her, especially the ones she really likes but I dont think there's anything to 'teach', just one of those things that will happen when all their muscles and coordination skills are in-synch.
  • Livvy has been "scooting" backwards for a couple of weeks too!
