I'm a first time mom and I've never purchased any type of baby products. I've been told that a soft mattress isn't good for a newborn because they need good back support, etc..... but I'm also afraid to buy a mattress that's too firm thinking that it might be uncomfortable. Would anyone be willing to give me some advice based on what firmness, brand, etc... crib mattress that you've used, please? Is it necessary to buy a mattress with a cooling core, coil spring vs memory foam. Thanks!
We got this one for my oldest and now our third baby will use it. It is foam and one side is extra firm for birth-1 and then firm for 1+. I LOVED it for how light it is (saved me when changing sheets). It is also waterproof and easy to clean. Made with safe materials
You want a firm sleep surface with a baby because of breathing issues. A soft surface or soft bedding can suffocate baby. That said, you're not going to really find a plush crib mattress on the market because of safety restrictions. Our goal with a mattress was eco-friendly materials because most conventional products off-gas. Since baby spends a ton of their first year sleeping, that was the key for us.Anthropologically, no surface is too firm for people to sleep on. Modern Western mattresses are unique in being plush. That isn't what most of the world uses even today. We have a Naturepedic and a Savvy Rest.

Most importantly, make sure it's waterproof and wipeable!
