Gender results for blood test and ultrasound conflict

Hi,

I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child, and we excitedly opted to learn our babies gender through the SneakPeek test which revealed we are having a girl. I took the test when I was 13 weeks along. At my anatomy ultrasound yesterday, the tech revealed we are having a boy and this was also verified with a 2nd tech who has 30 years of experience and is known to be one of the best in my state at identifying gender through ultrasound.

The next troubling thing is that my doctor was concerned by this that our baby might have a sex chromosome disorder such as XX male. She said that the condition is rare as she has only seen that once in her long career, but she still sent me for bloodwork. I've done research and while it is rare, I'm very nervous. My doctor tried to reassure me by saying that she suspects the blood test to be wrong because it is not FDA approved. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before? Thank you for any replies.

    All of this. There's no way I'd trust the at home blood test. It was probably just picking up your blood and not the baby's.

    This. Those home blood tests are notoriously inaccurate. I would go with the ultrasound results and not stress too much about the possibility of a chromosomal disorder because, like PP said, it probably picked up your blood and not the baby's. Klinefelter's is really rare, and most men affected by it have very mild symptoms (the main issue is sterility as an adult). Fingers crossed for you!

    I know multiple who did the send in sex blood tests and they were wrong. Trust the ultrasound. Boy parts are hard to miss at 20 weeks for sure. Hopefully the labs give you peace of mind though!

    Thank you for the support. I did the blood work and I'm supposed to find out in a week, so I'll post an update. My doctor told me not to worry because she didn't think anything was wrong but she wanted to be sure. It's hard not to worry though!

    When they took my blood for fetal free cell test it was a huge vial full (possibly two - I can't remember). The odds of them missing fetal DNA, or at least insufficient fetal DNA from a finger stick is pretty high.

    Chances are that your baby boy is a perfectly normal, healthy XY.

    Boy parts are SUPER obvious on ultrasound. I had these done at 18w2d and he's clearly a BOY ! I would definately trust the ultrasound more then an at home blood test.

    MY sister never did a blood test but she was told that she was having a boy due to her ultrasound. Surprisingly at birth she had a girl.

    Glad to hear your good news! (My friend was also given wrong results - she was told a boy when in reality it was a girl!) xxx
