Bill Contract

Does anyone else have a contract with their OBGYNs office? I was asked to sign a contract to pay for all expenses prior to delivery, they made a payment plan for 3 payments and want me to pay by 6/26. I do have insurance so they are asking for 20% I just feel it's so soon and I haven't even completed half of my pregnancy yet to pay for everything! Any thoughts??

Re: Bill Contract

  • A lot of offices make women start paying in the first month. That way once the baby comes you have no more expenses. Many women here have been paying since April. There have been a couple of posts already. It's pretty common.

  • I would ask for a different payment plan.  I don't believe they can FORCE you to pay for anything before services are rendered.  I could be wrong about that though.

  • They try to set us up to do that at my OB's office. However, no contract is signed. If you didn't sign the contract it's actually not really legal to bill ahead of billing insurance. I always refuse when they ask for payment up front as we use our health expense account to pay what insurance doesn't and they require an itemized receipt, which you won't have until after delivery with pregnancy. They are fine with that. A lot of offices are heading this route as deductible's are so high now. The pro is that you can make a payment plan with them now. Or you are required to pay the full amount after insurance is billed, which many people may not be able to afford after baby comes.
  • Sorry haven't been active in awhile. Ok that makes me feel a little better. My other concern is I have not met my deductible yet and if I don't met it by a month before my due date they are requesting to collect the rest of it. On top of the payments I have to make. Is that seem normal as well?

    I refused my payment plan.
I have a low deductible and max out pocket which I will definitely hit, if not before delivery. I have no intention of paying them more than I owe and trying to get a reimbursement. I will just wait for my final bill

They can't force you to do it partly because some people pay with an HSA or HRA so they have to have an itemized break down of costs after services are provided

Thanks for the info! I signed the contact a few months back but I thought it was what I was required to pay after insurance :( . The info was not clear until I started getting bills for appointments.
  • You have all been really helpful thank you!
