can't eat or drink without it coming back up

I'm 13 weeks and 6 days with my first and no matter what I eat or drink (including water) nothing stays down I can eat about once usually around 6 or 7pm and eat but I'm dehydrated and hungry and scared my baby isn't getting any nutrients... Has anyone dealt with this or know what I should do? I threw up 3 time and its not even 12 first when I woke and drunk a glass of water, then juice, and last powerade ... Please help really don't even want to try and eat or drink anymore but I know I need to.

  • Call your doctor ASAP. If they can't get you in right away, in my opinion you should be going to the ER. Hope they can give you something to help you feel better! Keep us posted!

  • Emergency room definitely, but I wouldn't worry too much. It's completely miserable, but your baby will take what he/she needs from you and your stores. I hope you get feeling better hun!
  • Have you spoken to your doctor about this thus far?  Your doctor may have some options about how to ease the nausea, such as taking Zofran.  That would be my first tip.  Also, when you are drinking water or any liquids, make sure you are taking small sips, even through a straw, rather than trying to take down large gulps or entire glasses at once.  Same with food, small nibbles on crackers or something similar, multiple attempts a day.  Just so you can slowly build up your tolerance.  I know when I'm nauseous, the only thing that I like to eat is fresh fruit, but if you're not eating anything, that might be harsh on your tummy right away.  Are you able to keep down prenatals?  You should try to take them during that 6-7 pm time when you are able to get a meal in.  I really hope you are able to find some relief soon, I know it can be totally frustrating and worrysome.  And like I said before, definitely talk to your doctor about this if you haven't already! Feel better!
  • Thank you I just got off the phone with the obgyn office but had to leave a message and my prenatals I usually take mid day but its 50/50 if it will stay down thanks for the advice nvr thought it was tht serious now I'm a lol more then scared but going to call my doctor again in a hour
  • I agreed to go to the emergency room. If you cannot keep down fluids, you will dehydrate quickly and this is putting you in great danger. Please going get fluid resuscitated. You should also call your OB about getting a script for a prescription antiemetic like Diceglis or Zofran or Reglan or promethazine… The list goes on and on and you should be able to get some relief. Good luck mama!

I went an got IVs for a few consecutive weeks before finding something that finally worked for me. Literally the only thing I could keep down for a few weeks was gatorade frozen into ice cubes that I would either suck on or blend down into slushies. Drinking regular gatorade always made me throw up but when I got it down this way it helped a lot. Maybe try that? Hope you find comfort soon. I'm still throwing up 1-2 times a day but it's not as bad as after every sip or bite like it was before.

ETA: Zofran and diclegis only worked for me when my stomach was empty but the second I'd eat or drink anything it would come up so my midwife told me to just stop taking them- no point putting drugs in your body if they're not helping. I still take a b6 supplement but can do without the zofran and unisom (which is the other component of diclegis).
  • I'm in the same boat. Have lost 11 lbs at 13w today- I've gone in for an IV and helped for a few days with zofran. But I'm trying not to take anything- I get a sandwich a day and that's it. Peanut butter and jelly.... And Gatorade. But doc does urine test and as long as my keytones aren't too high she said it's ok. (Keytones mean your in starvation mode) I've been through this once before with my twins and they were born ten years ago perfect!
Consult your doc but don't stress!
  • I'm so sorry you're going through this! I hope you get some help and relief soon.
  • I agree with all previous posts... This was me weeks 5.5-10 until I was prescribed Zofran. I have lost 26.5 lbs and went in 2 times for an IV. If you can't keep any fluids down for a period of time then you need to go to the ER they will hook you up and get you feeling better, or atleast get you hydrated and get you some meds. As for baby.. I felt the same way- so worried my baby wasn't getting the nutrients it needed and when I went in for my 10w ultrasound I was soooo scared they would say baby was measuring small or not growing.... But let me tell you, baby was right on track and was doing great. That baby will take whatever nutrients it needs and you wi be left with whatever is left. Some days I couldn't take my prenatal either. But rest assured you just need to stay hydrated and baby will be okay. I would also do some research on Hypermesis, you may have it. Good luck and don't worry, it'll get better.
  • If it's been a 12 hr period and you can't keep anything down go to the Er
