Menthol ice/hot patch back pain?

ive been having horrible back pain.. I work an office job so I sit my life away in the same position! I put a menthol ice/hot patch on my back.. Didn't think anything of it, then I read the back after thinking and it says please ask a health care professional.. I can't really find anything online.. What do you guys think?

  • I think just don't do it again. Most things are fine in small doses but speak to your doctor before you do it again. No sense stressing what's already done

  • Not too sure about this, sorry. But DoTerra has a Deep Blue rub running for about $16.00, I swear by this stuff. It's not harmful and is 10x's better than icy hot!

I definitely would not use it without speaking to your OB first. I'm not saying that it's harmful, but you need to be careful of any ingredients that are being absorbed through your skin. That even applies to herbal remedies.

On a sidenote- chiropractors that are trained in prenatal care are an excellent source for mamas to be with back pain. So long as you go to somebody that is reputable and does not try to get you to take x-rays or buy a package, you should be good. Also insurance can often cover a certain amount of visits per year.

At many chiropractors offices they sell back supports that are excellent for people that are seated all day. Another great trick is a lacrosse ball. You put it against the wall and rub your back up to it. Sounds silly, but it works!

    Feel better!

Lots of stretching too. I also brought an ice pack to work with me for my back with DS.
  • Thanks ladies! Went ahead and took it off!! Feels better than before, so that's good... Think I'll go for frozen peas next time!!! ;-)
  • I had joint pain and feel much better after starting yoga, I wonder if that might help you too? And I know later on belly bands are supposed to help.

  • I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing back pain!  My back has completely gone completely out twice during this pregnancy (I'm 13 weeks now) and I feel it going again.  I've been seeing a chiropractor, trying some stretches and light exercises, and trying to walk more at work since I have a desk job, but it just doesn't seem to be getting much better at all!  I'm trying to embrace every single pregnancy symptom, even the nausea and fatigue, but I'm starting to feel hopeless with this pain!  I think I'll try @VegDumpling advice and try Yoga next.

  • @VegDumpling Do you know if there is a special prenatal yoga class I should look for or would most classes be fine?

  • @sableeg try to find a prenatal one! Some of the poses in basic aren't good for preggos... and a lot of the moves are baby/ labor- oriented or are specific to pregnancy pains

  • I attended a maternity class today where someone asked this same question. Doc said heat is definitely the way to go. My husband also has chronic back pain and his doctor recommends heat over ice.
  • Thank you thank you!
