Total AW: daughter taking steps!!

Yay!!! Daughter is now a little over 16 months and started taking steps yesterday!!! I know I posted somewhere on here a few weeks ago (maybe in FFFC? Or UO?) that I was frustrated that she wasn't walking yet. A couple of you( of course, I don't remember who) were super supportive about it and told me she'd do it in her own time. And you were right!! Thank you!!!
(Now she just has to learn to keep her balance and not faceplant after 6 steps... ;).)

  • We called DS the drunken sailor. No matter how many times they faceplant, they are still so proud of themselves and keep trying.

  • Congrats to your walker. I love when they start walking. Mine still has drunken sailor moments. Since her name is morgan I tell her she has to much captain in her. (Captain morgan rum)
  • That's awesome!! Congrats :)
  • So exciting!
  • Yea!!! Before long she will be running everywhere!

Yay! This is a good post. I too love the drunken Frankenstein walk that little kids have when they first start. Stoked for you Mama! Now watch out she's on the move!
  • DS looked like a lizard on 2 legs when he first started walking. In no time you will be chasing her and it's all over! I swear DS went from a few steps to drunken tyrant chasing us down in 2 weeks. Awesome!
  • We are in that stage right now too!! Like a few days ago she was crawling everywhere and now I turn around and this skinny little drunk person is stumbling after me. I love it!!

I'm also stealing the drunken Frankenstein label! Hilarious!! Congrats on your walker!

Yes! She will find things you didn't even know you had now. And break things you didn't know could break ;)
And no matter how many times you vaccum she will find something on the floor to put in her mouth.
  • Your child is sort of like the internet of your household.  If something exists, it will exist in her mouth at some point.

  • So cute to see little ones walking. My son started walking before he was 7 months. I was not at all ready for it. Things got broken and he always found something to shove in his mouth. Keeping the bathroom door closed is very important, my son got in the bathtub and turned the hot water on at 8 months, good thing I was right behind him chasing after him to grab him out immediately. My friends daughter went headfirst into the toilet and drowned in under a minute at just under 2 years old...despite the "childproof" latch on the toilet. Bathrooms are dangerous places for wandering babies.
My son was very steady on his feet and never walked drunkenly. He was running in days of taking his first steps. He never fell once. As I said I was very much not ready for it. But my friend's son still walks drunkenly at 20 months old and when he falls he refuses to walk for days after.

=)) I may have to use this in real life and claim it as my own, k?
  • lol.  I'd be flattered.

  • @anneof2 oh my goodness that's scary!!! My daughter has been a climber for months, so we've already been having to do a lot of the putting stuff up high, but I'll have to be really careful with bathroom safety!!

My daughter managed to get into the master bath once (last time I let her nap in a pillow fort on my bed!) while I was making lunch.  I came back in and she had covered herself in vaseline and toilet paper.  She had also completely filled her mouth with vaseline.  I was terrified and called poison control.  She was fine, but I was much more careful after that.

FYI - Vaseline is non poisonous even if swallowed in unknown quantities according to poison control.

  • Oh and dog food and water. She pours water on floor and I always turn into slow motion and never make it in time. She also thinks dog food taste good. The Joys of mobile babies.

Congrats on your little walker! @GApeach83 yes! The dog water bowl is the biggest battle I have with my 15 mo. Every time I turn my back he runs for the bowl and stomps in it getting his socks/pants/the entire floor sopping wet!
  • Woohoo! My daughter will be 16 months on the 8th an still isn't walking unassisted. She did take her first couple steps the other day, but hasn't taken more than two at a time. I know she can do it, I think it's a confidence thing

  • That's exciting, bet she looks super cute, I find it amazing that something so small can move so darn fast as well.
