OBGYN - Now on hold for 14+ minutes

I am trying to stay calm, but this just seems ridiculous to me. I have a genuine medical concern, and the longer I wait, the more anxious I am getting. It's now 15+ minutes-ARGH! Have any of you had experiences like this with your OB? I am being over sensitive??

    They make me leave a voicemail and a dedicated results/answering nurse gets back to me. At first I thought it was a little obnoxious but now I like it. A 14+ minute hold would drive me nuts!

    Not sure of your time zone, but I'm on EST.  My OB isn't even open yet so I couldn't ask her a question through her office if I wanted to.  It's incredibly frustrating.  Did you at least get to explain the problem to the receptionist so she can let the doctor prioritize if it's urgent based on medical experience?

    Are you waiting for the OB or a nurse? At my officer we talk to a mute and then they discuss with the doctors and midwives and call us back.

    Could it be so early that no one is in or they're in with a patient already?

    That's frustrating but they are probably busy.

    @VexyMommy my doctor is part of a large medical group and I was on hold that long without speaking to anyone! With that being said, I am on the east coast and their office opens at 8. I have now spoken with a receptionist, and I am on hold AGAIN. I am hesitant to call my doctors office with any concerns, it's just not my nature, and experiences like this make me even less inclined to do so. We are at 21:46 now! @thefithuntress, I think I will ask if that is an option, when I can finally speak with someone!

    That being said, there was a prompt for emergencies, but to me, cramping without bleeding doesn't constitute an emergency.

    Yeah I often can't get someone right away. When I finally get to talk to someone they take a message and forward to the doctor. It could be the entire day (or two) before I hear from anyone.

    Are the cramps timed? Like do you have them, then don't, then they come back after a certain amount of minutes?

    I belong to a large practice and they have a similar system - you call, talk to a receptionist, the receptionist puts in your concern and sends it to a nurse and the nurse calls you back. Now typically I can get through to reception with maybe at most a 2min wait, but one day I was on hold for 10min! Those minutes feel really long especially when you have a concern.

    Hope all is well. Give us an update!

    I chose my ob based on the fact that it was a smaller practice and I can generally get through to them pretty quickly. Anyone else has an automated system you go through, then put you on hold for forever until it's your turn. I hated having to deal with that before I was pregnant and really didn't want to go through that while pregnant. When I need to call my dr it immediately goes to her receptionist. They ask what's wrong and either have a nurse address it fairly quickly, or let the dr know and she calls me back when she has time (depending on the nature of the concern). I love how easy it is and although I don't call often, I never feel uncomfortable calling. 

    Hope all is well! Cramping without bleeding is pretty normal during pregnancy, but I know it's hard not to worry!!!

    The hold time would drive me nuts- I hate being on hold! I leave a message and get a call back within 2 or so hours usually. I agree with PP is there any rhyme or reason to the cramping if so make notes. T&Ps you feel better soon!

    Glad to hear everything is ok.

    My midwife reminded me last appointment that even as a second time mom it's always ok to call or ask to come in if I'm concerned. She said to never feel bad about asking.

    Yes! I know it can be frustrating but I think I personally drive my OB crazy with my questions but I'd rather ask then Google because you always find the worst possible outcome on the Internet (ex. Headache = brain cancer). My OB makes everyone leave a message with their names, numbers, and concerns and has a nurse call back (over an hour wait). I called my OB once when I was 7 weeks because I lost all my symptoms overnight and thought I was suffering a miscarriage (I Googled it) the nurse called me back and was like "Chill out, you are fine, call back if you are bleeding." I'm almost 16 weeks now and feeling great.
