FYI there is also a board on The Bump devoted to names. They're great about providing opinions on potential names. Just go into it knowing that the ladies there are not shy about explaining why they don't like your name.
I've never heard of this name before for a boy or a girl. Is it common in some areas of the country (I'm in the NE)? Sorry I don't want this to come across as rude but when I read Sutton my first thought was mutton. Just something to consider unless I'm pronouncing it wrong.

It may be a southern thing. We love using family names for first names around here. lol.
I like Sutton! Speaking of Southerners using surnames as first names (... and male names beginning with S) a gal I know named her son Smith and I looove that (you may have also heard that one from Sex & the city).
Edit: a persons last name has a lot to do with if a first name works well together. That's always something I think about when picking potential names.
It's been so hard to find a boy name that begins with a S and when I finally do....
I also agree that it could go either way, but with that said I have not heard of Sutton as a first name, so I wouldn't let that discourage you. If you LOVE the name that is all that matters (well and also SO, if he/she is in the picture.)
Here are some other S names to consider... Samuel, Silas, Simon, Sawyer, Shane, Spencer.
It was my pick as a girl name (but we're having a boy!) but I have a friend who is due in November as well with a boy and that is the name they are using for him.

It's pronounced like "sue"ter. But yeah, I get that for sure.
I like that it is uncommon without being off the wall strange. I actually really like it.
