Baby get fussy every night around dinner time to bedtime ...

My baby started this thing where he is cool all day but after 7pm ish to bedtime he would get very fussy. He cried and cried and although I fed him, changed him, burped him nothing seem to help. He just get like this lately and he is now two weeks. I read up and some articles said that some baby has certain time when they get really fussy. I wonder if that is the case for him. Anybody else have this problem?

  • They call it the witching hour! Very common!

Wow that gave me the creeps. Do u know any tips to help with this?
  • Almost every night (although tonight seems to be the exception!) DS would be awake from 10pm-1:30am.  He quite often would be fussy and acting as if he's hungry, even after you feed him.  Then right around 1:30 it's like he instantly falls asleep!  Babies often do have a "witching hour" where they are very fussy.  It's possible that's what your baby is going through at that time.
  • There's no answer to what you should or shouldn't do, just try everything and find out what works for your baby to keep him calm

  • My baby has 2 of these witching hours wahhhhh
  • My first baby loved the vacuum. Our floors were so clean. ;)
Both boys love white noise. If you haven't tried that, that's my suggestion! You may still need to rock or walk around, but it calmed them faster.

  • With DS, I would walk hi around outside. It was the only thing that calmed him at all.

  • Mine started the same thing a week ago, at 2 weeks, from what I read online it sounds like the period if purple crying or witching hour, for us it's 630ish to 830ish
  • My baby has the same thing usually from 7-9/10pm. We found she was hungry during those times even if it hasn't been 2-3 hours between her feedings we feed her again anyways and that seems to help. We have a white noise machine and so I give her an extra bottle when she's really fussy and making the hungry face and then rock her in the dark in her room with the white noise machine on. This has seemed to help cut down on the length of her witching hours! It's all a guessing game, you have to find what works for your baby!
  • Thank you everyone for the 411 and suggestions, I felt relieved to know that it's common and not something serious. I'm going to have to try and see what makes him feel better.

Also know that none of it will work. That was us last night. We had tried everything. He just cried and cried. Ugh. I'm hoping this phase is short.

I feel you girl. Last night was a bad one for me as well. He woke up and stayed up hours at a time even after I do everything possible to make him comfortable. He stayed up for 3 freaking hours and finally went to sleep. Weird because during the day he eat and go to sleep almost instantly, I wish he would be like that at night. Anyways I'm exhausted from sleep being deprived, I probably get 3 to 4 hours a night combined. I hope tonight is a better night.
  • My LO has this anywhere from 5pm-9pm. Just his fussy time of day he's not inconsolable just not as content.. However he absolutely loves baths! so some extra fussy evenings I nurse him, give him a nice warm bath, then put him in Jammie's and usually he will want to nurse again and he crashes for a bit :) When I bathe him in the evenings I also use the bedtime baby wash and lotion, not sure if it helps but can't hurt right!

  • Mine also has cranky time around 7-10. She only takes short naps during the day like 30min to an hour. My guess is she's overly tired and she fights sleep like nobody's business. On the bright side though she sleeps really well at night. To calm her she likes being outside, works almost instantly.
