Do you think dogs can sense labor?

I'm 35 weeks and my dog(female) been acting a little strange she's been following me into the bathroom every time I go and waits for to finish and then she began to lick and put her head on my stomach when I pet her :-S

Re: Do you think dogs can sense labor?

  • Do you have any other symptoms of labor?

My dog has done this since I started showing...some dogs are just really interested in the bump.

  • My dogs have been like that every time I've been pregnant for the entire pregnancy. I always, as long as I'm home, have one of them by my side. They even take shifts to go outside or to go eat. If you don't have any other signs of labor I wouldn't worry too much about it.

  • I think they can. But I don't know if that is what this is. My dog knew I was pregnant before I did. Well, she didn't know what it was. But she knew something was strange and she was acting so odd.

Agree with pp my dogs have been more clingy, more careful, more doting since I began showing. But it wouldn't surprise me if this increased as labor nears.
  • My dog has done that for months, and gets anxious when he can't be near me. Last few days he has only gotten worse, I'm 39 weeks and 4days. At one point he had me wondering if he knew something I didn't lol. I've had off an on contractions since but very spaced, an lost the plug. Time will tell.
  • My dogs acted funny last Saturday and Sunday they knew something was up and sure enough on Monday morning at 345 my water broke... Baby girl was 34 weeks 6 days old when she was born at 8:07 pm on June 1
  • My cat has been following me non-stop for the past couple of days. Actually, he been swating my feet when I get up to do anything until I sit back down. I think he knows something up.

My dogs haven been very clingy my whole pregnancy, the youngest actually cries if he can't sleep with me. They know what is going on.
  • My dogs been very clingy from the begging but the last few hours he been constantly licking me and just won't leave my side. The past week I have had dihaera and vomited once or twice with belly cramps! Dihaera has stoped not but belly cramps haven't.. Do you think he can sense something like premature labour?
  • It definitely sounds like you're in labor. I think you should go straight to L&D and explain that even though you're having no labor symptoms whatsoever and are only 35 weeks, you're sure you're in labor because your dog laid her head on your stomach.
