So stressed out

Well we got news today that my husband's company is laying off 1800 people and his area is on the list. He was laid off for a few months last year and then brought back. If he's laid off this time he will get no severance package and only get unemployment for 6 months. There's a rumor they are offering packages to people under 55 to volunteeraly leave and if it's what they say he might take it. Then we would be moving out of state. I've been so stressed about another baby as it is. Now I might have to worry about moving with a newborn. Just trying to stay calm and hope for the best.

Re: So stressed out

  • Sorry you're having to deal with that stress. I know this sounds terrible right now, but I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason. My DH worked for a psychopath when I was pregnant with DS and he would constantly say things like "How would you like to go home and tell your wife you got canned today." Losing a job is always stressful and puts a lot on you, but I hope it all works out for you and you get some closure on the matter soon. We spent almost a year going through threats with his boss and sometimes waiting for the hammer to come down is half the battle. Layoffs blow... Sending good vibes your way.

That's awful news!  So sorry you have to stress about this at an already difficult time...  On the bright side, would you be moving closer to family and/or more job opportunities?
  • Thank you. @Elyse1384. @urby87 DHs cousin is in FL where we'd be moving. He and his wife have a daughter close in age to our son. The rest of our family lives in CT so this would be a huge change for us.

Hey! We live in Florida! Change is good. It's exciting! I'm sorry for the stress but I'm also a believer that everything will turn out okay. It's hard but try to balance out the pro's and con's and formulate a plan, which it sounds like you're already doing. Either way I hope you get the outcome you two want most. Best of luck to you. :)

A huge change, yes, but it does sound like you'll be starting off with a decent support group. :)
  • Husband's company goes through those rounds of layoffs pretty often, and I swear waiting to hear who will be let go is the worst! Hopefully your husband can get a good package, if that is best case scenario for y'all! Thoughts and prayers.
  • This sucks, we're going through something similar here. DH works for Sperry, currently owned by Haliburton, but it's up for sale so everything is kind of up in the air.
Think of it this way, if he takes the package and yall move you'd be away from where the market will be flooded with those with a similar skill set looking for new employment. Plus change can be good, a new start. It would be hard, but it sounds like yall have been through a lot before. You can do it.
  • Good luck! I know it sucks to hear right now, but so many people I know found a much better opportunity after getting laid off. Hopefully you're worrying about nothing tho!

  • Waiting for news is the worst part! FX that this layoff crap happens quick so you know ASAP. If the package to leave voluntarily is good and you'd like to move start saving those pennies and prepping the resume. You've got a plan so you are already ahead.
  • Thank you everyone! I guess it's a good thing I like oranges. ;)
