Bathing newborn

oops! 9 days flew by and we haven't haven't even washed our babe's hair!!! Anyone else bonding w a dirty babe? ;-) his cord hasn't fallen off yet and penis still needs a little more healing (in my opinion--still red splotchy!) so wondering when you all washed hair and sponged bath for 1st time?

    We did once in hospital (required you show that you know how to) and then about 3 days after. Then it was probably like a 6-7 day gap before her next one. Oops! The skin on our LOs legs is really dry and flakey though so we're worried about giving her too many.

    5 days old. Washed his hair with the kitchen sink sprayer, and sponge bathed on the counter. He wasn't a fan, but hoping to get him used to it!!

    Interesting. They never gave my son a bath in the hospital, to my knowledge… Maybe because this is baby two? I do remember with my first they gave him a bath with me right there… I think we should probably sponge bath him today. But like previous post above, he also has dry flaky skin in a lot of areas…

    I've been sponge bathing her every three days and then gave her her first real bath yesterday. She is 3 weeks old

    I haven't done a real bath but I sponge bathe him every other day or so. And spot clean when needed lol. Giving him the baths and lotion afterwards actually helped his skin.

    My LO loves getting a bath! She becomes calm and happy when she's clean so I usually bath her every second day but only use soap every second bath so I don't dry out her skin

    Our 3 week old loves baths. We give her one ever 3 days. She had really dry skin when we brought her hoome but since giving her baths its improved a  lot!

    We've been sponge bathing every 3 days per the hospital's instructions. I was irritated that the nurse bathed her when we sent her to the nursery for a few hours the first night. She "offered" for me to come with and participate, but I was 5 hours out of surgery and wasn't even allowed to walk, not to mention I was exhausted to the point of passing out (hence why I gave in and sent her to the nursery).

    That nurse got herself put on my shit list pretty quickly.

    My doctor and all the nurses told me that we could still bathe our son right away after we left the hospital even though his cord obviously had not fallen off and his circumsicion wasn't healed. I bathed him every 2 or 3 days (only using soap every second bath). His cord fell off at 7 days and his circ healed perfectly within 12 days.

    Nurses bathed her in the hospital and then my sister did about 4 days later, i was staying with my sister and moved back home last wed which is the last time she's been bathed, i bathed her with my sister supervising me and i'm a lil worried about doing it alone with DH lol but we're going for it tomorrow.

    My only concern it getting water in her ears while washing her hair, it happened last time =\ wish us luck!

    We have bathed LO every other day since her cord fell off. She has dry skin, but if we don't bathe her she smells like spit up and old formula - so a bath it is :)

    DH and I just did the first one together. He was bathed in the hospital and then my mom did one last week with me and DH watching. Today's went surprisingly well. He liked being in the tub, but did not like being in the towel afterwards. Poor little guy was getting cold :(

    My mom gave me a good tip for bathing DD- place a warm washcloth on the tummy while you bathe the rest of them. It keeps them warm and gets them happy and comfortable with bathing (I keep rewarming the cloth as needed during the bath). We are bathing her every 3 days now but the first couple of weeks only once (her skin was super dry so we sponge cleaned her when needed until now).

    I put an extra thin bath towel around my babies while I'm bathing them. I just uncover the part that I am washing and then recover when done. Helps keep them warm & happy throughout the bath. They love their baths! I picked up this trick from the NICU nurses.
