Baby registry

when is a good time to start a registry ?

Re: Baby registry

  • Whenever! I would say at least a couple months before shower so you know what you need and have time to adjust online. It took us 3 hours! I'm 18 weeks and we did ours last weekend. We aren't finding out sex so we didn't do a lot of nursery or clothing stuff. But if you do may take even longer. We just did buy buy baby bc I didn't want to keep track of multiple stores and duplicates!

  • Ultimately, whenever you feel comfortable. We started ours earlier than most people probably do- at about 10 weeks. However, we're doing ours on Amazon, and kept the settings on private until a few days ago (16 weeks). We only made it public because my mother in law wanted to start buying things (and we definitely don't want to do anything to hinder that! haha).

I liked starting it early, as we had plenty to time to research and consult friends/family with babies (which was useful, as we are first timers). We've also had friends look through our registry and tell us they have hand me downs of similar/the same products, which has been amazing.

  • we did ours yesterday- i am 17 weeks. it was super overwhelming!
  • Try doing a search. There are a lot of threads on this topic already and many with "must have items".
  • We already went and looked at the strollers & car seats to get a feel for what we wanted. We plan on completing the actual registry once we know the gender.

Iv tried searching but all I get are posts that say the word baby registry in it. I know the gender and in my second trimester. Iv gotten great recommendations on strollers and car seats. I pretty much know what is not necessary since I was 20 when my sister was born, learned a lot from that.

Most of the posts that have the word registry in them, especially in the title would be pretty useful to you.  The general summary though is whenever you think you're ready to start one.

  • Babylist lets you use multiple stores. It's awesome!

I searched "when to start a registry" (your question) and got these useful results:

  • I already started mine and have found that it helped keep me excited while I was going through terrible morning sickness! I'm on Amazon and also BRU, since I know some people in our families would rather go to an actual store than shop online. I've spent a ton of time on it already just because I am a researcher! Amazon is amazing by the way :)

  • I had a question about registering. Are you going to register at more than one place? Babies R Us can be pretty expensive so I was thinking of doing a registry there and at Target or Burlington also.
  • @ShianeNicole We registered at two places with my first.  Amazon and BabiesRUs.  The only problem was trying to avoid duplicates.

  • Amazon and Babies R Us both give you a percentage off of anything you registered for but was not purchased so if you still need the item you can get a discount.

I second this! I did our registry around week 11 and baby list is so great!

  • I ended up doing baby list & your right it's awesome. Since most of family is out of state, they can just ship it direct :)
