Infertility

Intro and IVF

edited May 2015 in Infertility
Hello all! I am 28 years old, husband is 28 as well. We have been TTC for over a year. We tried several rounds of Clomid without any ovulation occurring. Finally found out that I have PCOS once we started going to RE. Since we have spent a lot of our insurance money (with a 10,000 max) we decided to go ahead and start with IVF to be able to maximize on the money insurance will pay. I started injections 3 days ago and we go back to the doctor tomorrow morning to see how things are progressing. Hopefully my 25+ follicles on each ovary are already growing! My husband keeps saying that "it will happen" but I of course am frustrated with how long it's taking and everything. I want to be hopeful but it's hard to not worry that it won't work since the Clomid didn't! Anyone else starting with IVF this month?!

Re: Intro and IVF

  • Good luck! Just finished my first cycle. Monday is my beta. I will say this though, the worst part of it all for me, wasn't the injections it was the waiting game from the day of the retrieval to the day of the beta. Between the fertilization report and than the 2WW that has been the hardest. Hoping everything goes well for you!

  • I have just had my transfer I had about 14 follicles all up and they got 10 eggs I only ended up with two really good ones. The injections were a pain in the ass and some hurt like crazy but hopefully for all of us after all we go through its successful. I was agony after the egg collection I thought I was going to have to go to hospital but everything's settled down now thank goodness. Good luck with your journey

I too just finished my first cycle and although I didn't find the shots too painful (except at the end when my (•)(•) hurt from the high estrogen levels) what I didn't expect was the discomfort I felt after the ER, and it took me over a week so be able to lean over or cough without feeling achy. Oh and the 2WW sucks but it'll all be worth it in the end we hope (my beta is on Monday). Best of luck! We understand what you're going through!

I started my IVF cycle at the end of April and I had to freeze my embryos because of OHSS and my doctor advised I needed to wait to do a transfer. I think the worst part of the cycle was the ER (not to mention while injecting myself and my hormones all over the place, I also had bronchitis and sinusitis!). I was in so much pain the day before and day of my ER. Luckily, the day after I was okay and in much less pain. I will have my transfer on June 8th and I'm not looking forward to those progesterone shots lol. Best of luck to you and your husband!
  • Thanks for the reply messages everyone. It's so nice to have other people that are in the same boat! I hadn't heard anyone say that the egg retrieval hurt that much so I'm glad I've been warned! I had my follicles checked today and I had several at 9.5 and one that was over 10. Waiting on my nurse to call and give me instructions but I'm hopeful since they are at least growing! Hope everyone is doing well!!!
  • My ER hurt alot during the process, I too had PCOS and hyper-produced. However, as soon as they were out of there, I felt much better. I took a T3 afterwards and was fine. Everyone experiences it differently, I hope yours goes well. Best of luck to you.

I am in my first round of IVF, will get results this Thursday . Looking back the injections aren't so bad. It was a pain in the a** sometimes to schedule around things but it worked. My husband administered for me, and it ended up being easier to inject into my stomach vs thighs. Thighs for me ended up sometimes with a little stinging. I had no side affects except for a bit of bloating a day or two before the retrieval. The retreival was not painful. Of course being under anesthesia you can't feel a thing. I only felt tenderness for a few days if I had a full badder when I urinated. Transfer is super easy just uncomfortable a bit. And the waiting as others has said is such agony!! @retas @Cupcakegal930 @chelsbum hoping you're all doing well with the news you received yesterday.

  • Thanks @ambdtb! Injections are going ok... I started doing Ganerlix this morning and will increase dose of Menopur tonight. The Ganerlix stung a little bit but not terrible. I have been doing injections myself because my husband can't get over the idea of sticking me (even though he knows he has to do the trigger shot in my bottom!) I go back to RE tomorrow to check on the growth! I have been having little twinges of pain in the lower abdomen so I'm guessing that means the follicles are growing like they are supposed to. Who know I would be so excited about being in pain!!! Thanks for the support!!! :)
  • Update: went to RE this morning and just got call from my nurse- she said everything is progressing and I had lots of follicles at 12mm but they aren't growing as fast as they originally thought they would. So now my retrieval date and transfer date will be pushed back at least 2 days... I'm kinda bummed! I know it's only two days but it's still disappointing! :( anyone else have this problem with their follicles responding but not quick enough?

@WantingBabyL412 I stimulated the full fourteen days before my trigger shot and then ER. During my monitoring appointments for my natural cycle I have a later 'ovulater' as well so I don't know if those are connected? And the ER itself I didn't find painful, maybe the odd poke but nothing unbearable for me.
@ambdtb we got a BFP, thanks for your positive thoughts!
