Birth control question

I know my doctor discussed taking the pill after my period but do you have to wait until your period resumes to begin taking the pill? I'm 6 weeks postpartum today, I'm not breastfeeding and I thought my period was resuming but it was just spotting a couple days earlier this week. I felt a bit crampy too but now it's nothing. I would like to start taking the pill since it's Sunday but would also like to do it right because I rather not get pregnant right away. We'll be using back up contraception too for a little bit just in case (yes, I'm that paranoid, also I'm a first time mom and have no idea). Thanks ladies!

Re: Birth control question

  • I'm not sure. I'm breastfeeding and 8 weeks and have been waiting for mine as well. It seems like it's been forever.

I know with breastfeeding it's normal to not have it return for months but you're still able to get pregnant.
  • You gave to wait until you get your period and then start your birth control the next Sunday... If you get it on Tuesday ... Start it Sunday

Thanks, I was sure that my doctor said that. I think my period was short only seemed like 2 days and it was more spotting.
  • You don't have to wait to get your period. I started my pill at 6 weeks postpartum without getting it first. That's what my OB told me to do.

My dr also said to start taking it immediately. However, use backup for the first 7 days.
