Yikes! Sudden weight gain!

Around 18 weeks I had gained about a total of 5 pounds. I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow and in just the last 2 weeks I packed on another 6 pounds! There is a number on my scale that I have never seen before in regards to my weight... Yikes! And in the last week or so I've become ravenously hungry. Can't... Stop.... Eating!

Shhhhh... Don't tell Facebook-land or I'll never hear the end of it about that doughnut I had, ug!

But I'll tell you what, I am so freaking happy to be over morning (noon and night) sickness!! :)

I've had a large gain this month. Wondering if my MD will say anything at my appt on Tuesday. Last time I gained maybe 1-2 lbs that month. This time, I think I've gained 7lbs. My appetite just doesn't stop!

(I lol'd at your donut comment!)

  • Ughhh this makes me want a maple bar :(
  • I am going through the the same....only gained 5 pounds but in the last week and a half I have packed on another 3! I am 17 weeks. I am also super swollen so I am hoping it's water weight.....my face looks so chubbed up now :( not feeling very attractive right now.
  • I definately noticed the increase in appetite !! I'm 20w3d and wow I just constantly want food ! I will try and distract myself from food but I do cave ! And ice cream had become my weakness !!

I always want to eat. Even if I know I'll be queasy or have heartburn after, I still want to eat. I gained four pounds in the last month...at least it wasn't the ten I thought it was.

I gained a ton in my 2nd and 3rd month. I think it was mostly from stress. This month i didn't stop at any fast food joints or anything. Hoping not to see a major jump on the scale. It doesn't help that i am completely consumed by thoughts of being fat. I know its only temporary but it doesn't make me feel better seeing everyone in their summer clothes and here i am in stretchy pants and x large t-shirts. I gotta exercise and i have zero interest in doing so. Ok end rant. Thanks ladies
  • I want to eat nothing but sweets all the time! And I do eat probably more than I should - my new love handles prove it! I never actually "feel hungry" though! I will eat, I get really full, but if I'm busy and don't get around to eating rather than feeling hungry I will feel nauseous! It's so strange.

I am 22 weeks and have gained 18 pounds...ugh! And of course all I want to eat is sweets
  • I'm so glad to read this! By 18 weeks I had gained 5 pounds. And from 18-21 weeks I have gained 9 more! My body is having a tough time with the sudden increase in weight and I just feel so HEAVY! I'm hoping the 3 pounds a week trend doesn't continue!
  • I'm 22 weeks and have gained 16lbs. I'm pretty small To begin with at a starting weight of 117. Sometimes I feel huge and sometimes i don't even look pregnant and I wonder where the hell that 16lbs went to!? I've noticed a lot less muscle tone and more fat, but I'm still wearing size 0 with a belly band. Everyone says I'm all belly but my belly dissapears sometimes so I'm kinda thinking I've just gotten lazy and getting fat

I've put on 12 pounds so far at 22 weeks-- 8 of those these past four weeks. Ha! My doctor told me to slow down but she doesn't understand that all day Ben and Jerry whisper my name from inside the freezer... Well, sometimes they straight up yell at me to come eat their deliciousness! =P~
  • My issue is convenience! I'm hungry all of the time and don't feel like making something so I microwave something unhealthy for a quick fix!

Eating right is hard for me when I have about 5 minutes or less to prepare food before I either get sick or tired. I was super excited though to find out recently that more foods aren't bothering me anymore and yogurt and fresh fruit can be a part of my life again! I announced so proudly to my husband (like a child boasting that they wrote their name all by themselves) that I ate an apple and yogurt and took my prenatal vitamins without getting sick! It was a gold star moment for sure :)
  • I'd only gained 10 pounds by my 18 week apt and then gained another 10 by by 22 week apt putting me at 20 pounds so far!! I was small to begin w so my dr isn't worried and said I'm in a healthy range but it does just seem like a lot :( better start turning down those sweets..

I guess we've hit that second trimester stage where we are "making up" for first trimester morning sickness weight loss/slow weight gain. I'm happy to enjoy food again but it sure would be nice to be able to sleep longer than 2 hours before I wake up starving and ready to kill for a doughnut or hamburger.
Speaking of doughnuts and hamburgers... Has anyone been to Vegas recently? When we went last year one of the casino cafes had a burger where the bun was 2 Krispy Kreme doughnuts. At the time I figured it has to be a stoner who came up with the idea. Now I'm thinking it was a pregnant lady, cause I would eat that!!! Lol.

Im on the plus size side so up until 20 weeks I had only gained 3 pounds. Well this morning I weighed myself and looks like I'm up another 4 pounds! In two weeks! WTF. I don't see my doctor again week and a half but now I'm afraid to get the finger wag. I do remember with my son from month 6/7 gaining 8 pounds so I'm guessing the same thing is happening here again ugh.

I'll be 22 weeks tomorrow and as of my last appointment, I'd gained 8 lbs. 3 of those were in 1 month. That may not seem like much, but I'm 5'2" and started out at 188, so now I feel humongous and heavy.

Edited: I'm 22 weeks, not 23 like I originally said. Darn pregnancy brain!

  • Me too jumped from 7lbs to 11 in the last two weeks. I'm 19 weeks as of yesterday.
  • My midwife said I would probably have an appt where I would gain a large amount (5+lb) in second tri and to not be surprised by it. But that she wouldn't be happy if it happened repeatedly ha.

  • @J1D There's a baseball stadium for a AAA team near us that has those burgers too! My husband has replicated them and calls them red eye burgers. Complete with bacon and fried egg. Amazing.

  • I lost about 3-4 pounds in my first trimester but have gained it all back plus some more. Are people counting their weight gain from the pre pregnancy weight? Or from the weight loss, if it occurred, to the current weight? Which is right for weight gained during pregnancy?

I keep everything in reference to pre pregnancy weight. My OB references the weight from my first appointment.

I count from the weight I was the day I got a BFP. I lost 3 lbs early on, but gained that back right away.
