Inconsolable time period

2 week old screams bloody murder every night from about 10pm until 1 am. I can get him to sleep on my chest but then he will freak out when I transfer him to the bassinet. It takes a very long time to quiet him down and then we try to transfer him again. It's a vicious cycle. I let him sleep on for 10-20 min or so before trying to transfer.

He sleeps in the pack n play which is flat during the day! He even freaks out when I put him in rock no play at night which is not flat. Any ideas as to what's going on??

  • Have you tried feeding him during this time?

  • Babies have a fussy time. My Los fussy time is in the evening around dinner and through until bedtime. It sounds like this is just your Los fussy time. I've started giving gripe water which helps with colic and it seems to help.
  • My little guy was doing this for about a week every night from 9-11. I've noticed that since we have started to create more of a schedule for him he has done a lot less of it. It's far from a rigid schedule but every night around 8 (when big brother goes to bed) we get all freshened up, clean pjs on, if it's even remotely close to time to eat we feed him, make the room dark and quiet, and get him to bed. I read here on the bump that creating clear bedtime routines that are the same every night will help them understand night time.even as a newborn.
Also, moving him to his own room where he doesn't hear you breathing or getting in or out of bed could help. We put our guy right across the hall on day 13 we leave both doors open and I have the monitor on. He sleeps so much better now after 3 nights of this...oh and I'm sleeping better. Not necessarily longer but better.
Alk this may not help your little one....some babies just need to cry for a period of time each day but it's worth a shot. I was feeling just like you are. We moved our 5 yr old out of our room when he was around two weeks old as well and it made a huge difference then too.
Good luck. Your doing great mamma!
  • My LO started doing this too, it's such s struggle to get him to fall asleep between 10-1am. Eventually I just end up sleeping on the couch because sitting in the rocking chair for this amount of time is painful on my episiotomy stitches. I am hoping this doesn't last long, it's so frustrating.
  • We have a pretty clear Schedule right now and I always offer him food when he's fussy. But I never considered moving him to his own room so soon... Not a bad idea thank u!
  • Super normal.. Usually that time of night they want to cluster feed. My little girl nurses on and off from like 9-1130, and then will finally settle and sleep until like five am.
