Baby won't sleep

anyone else have a baby that won't sleep throughout the day very well? I think he is extremely overly tired and by the "witching" hours at night he is screaming his head off, even after a bottle. It's like the bottle wakes him up rather than sends him into a baby coma. It's is almost every night. He is seven weeks old... Any help/suggestions??

Re: Baby won't sleep

  • And I swaddle him, shush him, rock him, use sound machines... Nothing seems to work.

  • Mine won't sleep if he is over stimulated. We had friends over this weekend and there was a lot going on. I ended up taking him in our bedroom for quiet time one afternoon (lights off, no noise except his bunny that makes white noise) and fed him and then just snuggled with him. He fell asleep really quickly and slept for a few hours. Mine little man is 5 1/2 weeks.
  • My 7 week old has been fighting sleep during the day. While rocking/jiggling him I just throw a light blanket over his face and usually within a few minutes he's asleep. I think since he's starting to pay more attention to things going on around him he can't fall asleep until that's taken away!
  • My son is 5 weeks old. He doesn't sleep much during the day but he sleeps from about 9pm to 9am. He wakes to eat and goes back to sleep. During the day he takes a 3 or 4 thirty minute naps.
  • My daughter is 4 weeks and doesn't like to nap during the day either. I think I need to take all stimulation away. She love to look around and gets bored easily. She also wakes easily so we pretty much have to swaddle her so she doesn't flail her little arms and wake herself up as well as go to her dark quiet nursery to calm her down. Rowan also will quickly calm down when she can look at pictures on the wall of mom and dad.
  • OMG.. Laura I envy you.. How do you made a 5 weeks old sleep from 9 to 9... Mine is 7 weeks today and I was happy that he sleep last night from 10:45 to 4:45am... That was an accomplishment for us...
  • Do you have a carrier? When i put my 6 week old in my Seven Sling (it's just a front carrying simple across the chest/shoulder sling) he tends to pass right out. Fights it a little getting in but once I start walking around or give him my finger to suck on for a minute he likes falls asleep. Slept in there for a day of errands and sofa shopping last weekend! Didn't make a peep! I think it's a good combo of being super tight, and the jiggling from walking around, plus it's just fabric not bulky so he gets my body warmth and his head is right over my heartbeat--so all very womb-like comforts! Try wearing one for awhile when you're around the house. Hurts my back after too long, it's not very ergonomic, but good for hands free soothing. Good luck!
  • Another option: a swing! We have a cradle and swing from fisher price (snugamonkey) and when our LO is flipping out, we put him in it and he will often pass out. Ours also loves the girasol woven wrap we use...he goes out like a light if we need him to be quiet or sleep. Met a friend for lunch yesterday in it and there was barely a peep the whole time.
  • I find my LO gets too stimulated easily and can only be awake for 1 hour and 15 or 20 min after waking - including feeding and diaper change. That's not a lot of awake time if you think about it. I bring him to the bedroom and swaddle him before he gets tired, but definaty not a second after I see a yawn. So far it's been working pretty well. Learned this from previous kids.
