Baby Gear

Ok mama's looking for opinions here.  I am a STM but it has been 6 years so I feel like I am kind of starting over.  I am wondering about rock and plays, swings, and bouncer seats.  I can't imagine all 3 are really necessary. I like the idea of the rock and play so then should I get a swing in addition and skip the bouncer seat or vice versa?  I know all of these are kind of "extras" that baby doesn't actually "need" but am just wondering what you thought was useful for your little ones? Thanks.

I'm on baby #3. All I've ever had is a bouncer chair so I have somewhere to put them when I'm in the shower or cooking in the kitchen. I never thought to get a swing because I was afraid for them to get so used to it and that being the only place they'd nap or sleep. But I know other moms that say they couldn't live without a swing. I've never seen a rock and play so I don't have an opinion regarding that one :-)

  • We had a bouncer and never used it. This time around we will definitely use the rock and play, my daughter slept in it until she was almost 1 1/2 she loved it! We also used the swing but after about 8/9 months it was a no go she didn't want to stay in it. I'm debating it this time being we have to buy one, I gave all my baby stuff away when we moved from nj to
    Tx.

My daughter slept in her RNP for the first 4 months in our bedroom, so it stayed there. We used the heck out of the swing. I can count on one hand how many times we used out bounces seat. Each child is different and you knew know what they'll take to. If I had to vote out one, it would for sure be the bouncer seat.

I usually like to keep one type of soothing seat for baby on the main floor as well as upstairs. Any of the items you mentioned are good. I usually go for a swing in the living room and I put a bouncy chair or vibrating chair upstairs on the second floor. If baby is awake I don't want to put him in his bed. And we spend a lot of time upstairs if I am doing something with the other children or if I'm having a shower. Plenty of times I bring baby right into the bathroom with me and put baby in the vibrating chair while I'm taking a shower, that way I don't have to feel rushed to go back and check on the baby. so depending on what size your house is, i think buying two of the items would be good and my suggestion is the vibrating chair and a swing.

I just want to make it clear that the rock and play is not meant for babies to sleep in. They were actually recalls for that one. And it's very clear on the instructions for them still, but it is not meant for baby to stay in for hours at a time. There are several problems that have arisen with them including babies having mis-shaped heads and several other things. That is not a sleeping item.
  • Our swing is a Graco duet and the seat comes off as the bouncy you can put anywhere. I'd highly recommend it as I enjoyed using both at different times but it didn't take up any extra space as two separate gear items.... Just my two cents!

  • I had a rock n play for my daughter and she slept better in it than the bassinet so we are not using a bassinet this time. Baby boy will sleep I n the rock n play. They mAke them motorized now by the way... anyway I love love love my swing so thAt will be hanging out in our foamy room. We didn't use the bouncer seat much but I might use it in the kitchen while I cook or give it to one of the grandparents to use.

  • I registered for the graco duet bc I thought same thing. Why do you need all of these items. Then I saw the 2 in one online and thought it was a perfect solution.
