Pregnant after 35

Going a little crazy

So, I am officially past my due date, which was yesterday.  I realize that being overdue is not unusual, especially for FTMs, but I think I am going to make myself crazy, I am so impatient.  I just wish I had a crystal ball to tell me how much longer.  I really don't feel any different than I have for weeks now, which makes me think I've still got a while to go yet.  Anyway, I have a couple of questions for those of you who have already "been there, done that."

1. Baby is still moving like crazy - does movement typically increase/decrease/ stay the same once labor starts?
2. Will I really know when labor starts?  I've been feeling generally crampy and uncomfortable, but nothing painful.
3. I have continued to exercise throughout my pregnancy, but now that I'm past my due date, I'm not sure if I should.  I will ask my OB on Wed, which is my next appointment if I'm still pregnant by then, but I'm curious what everyone else's experience has been.

Thanks for your input!  Now excuse me while I go bounce up and down on my exercise ball for the next four hours.

Yes, o feel for you, the anxiety & uncertainty is intense!
The day before I went into labor I woke up feeling kinda blah and unenergetic. I also had the most consistent cramps that I'd had until then. I did walk/slow jog the two days before delivery.
Yes, real contractions are noticeably different than BH :) even though at the start they may not really be painful.

  • Ugh. That's no fun!! Has your OB said how far they would let you go before they induce?

Movement for me has stayed consistent until delivery.

You should know when it's a real contraction because they won't stop. It'll be a consistent and regular. Mine in the past felt like a really bad period cramp. And just grew with intensity and frequency.

Exercise I'm guessing is probably per your comfort zone at this point. I have t kept up with anything because my leg pain has been so bad.

  • Thanks for your responses!  I haven't talked with OB about induction yet.  I have an appointment tomorrow for an NST, so I imagine we'll discuss it then.  Ugh.  Just the thought of induction nearly sends me over the edge.  I have severe anxiety when it comes to needles (to the point where I cry and can't breath and once quite literally ran out of a dentist's office in hysterics the only time in my life that somebody tried to give me an IV.)  I am really hoping induction won't be necessary.  Fingers crossed that this baby decides to show up on his own.

  • I was late with both my children and dr. Stripped my membranes and that put me in labor within a day.
My first pregnancy I had been having cramps and I had no idea it was the beginning of labor until it started picking up, then I knew. It feels like diarrhea cramping.
I hope you don't need to be induced. Talk with dr and see what they can do.
    So exciting.

  • hooligans4.  I have read about membrane sweeps, and I do plan to ask about that tomorrow at my appointment.  From everything I've read, you have to be dilated at least enough for the doc to get a finger in to do the sweep, and as of my visit last week, I was 0cm.  Here's hoping that I've at least made SOME progress from 0cm, which might make a sweep an option.  I just keep telling myself to be patient!

  • I second the 'diarhea' crampy feeling. But it was consistent ... I think that's how I knew. It 10 min apart, then 8 ... Over a period of 5 hours until they were 4-5 min before I left for the hospital. Didn't really start to hurt until we parked the car @ the hospital.
  • 1. Baby is still moving like crazy - does movement typically increase/decrease/ stay the same once labor starts?

My babies were always very very active...right until the moment they were out.  They moved a lot during the last days of pregnancy and right through labor.
    2. Will I really know when labor starts?  I've been feeling generally crampy and uncomfortable, but nothing painful.

Ummm...if you don't know you are in labor...every woman in the world will envy you!!!  Yes you will know.  At first you might question it...but once it gets regular and moving there will be no doubt (you will laugh at this question once you go through labor)
    3. I have continued to exercise throughout my pregnancy, but now that I'm past my due date, I'm not sure if I should.  I will ask my OB on Wed, which is my next appointment if I'm still pregnant by then, but I'm curious what everyone else's experience has been.

if you can exercise and not have unusual discomfort like nausea, shooting pains, unusual cramping, muscle weakness ect, then sure keep doing it.  If you get to feeling weird try backing your intensity down, still feeling odd then just stop.
  • Thank you ladies for all of your wisdom!  I am very anxious for my OB appointment tomorrow morning - hoping it goes well and he will tell me I've at least made some progress!
