How much do you tell your boss?

When you need to miss work, come in late, or leave early due to pregnancy issues? Today I had to leave for a last minute appointment. I had some pain in my urethra, called my doc, and they asked me to come get it checked out. Turns out it wasn't anything to be worried about, but I'm wondering how much info I need to give my boss. Do I share the details? He has been my boss for about 4 years and were in a very professional office environment. I'm the only female on a team of about 20 men.

I think when it comes to pregnancy no other details of why you needed a last minute appt are necessary. Especially if it's as professional as you're leading on. Only you know your working dynamic with him though.

I left work early once and my reasoning was "I feel off today". That's all they needed, they understand pregnancy is hard.

If your boss pushes for details you are not comfortable sharing then simply get a doctors note that shows you were under their care at that specific time.

I just say dr appt to my boss. Pretty sure he could care less what they are for.

Yep, I just say that I have a doctor's appointment. I'm a teacher so I can't just up and leave during the day, and they're super stingy about getting us subs, so I always have to get a doctor's note anyway, so I haven't had any issues or been asked to elabortae any further on anything.

I work full time but I have a non-traditional schedule in that I work 3 12 hour shifts instead of 5 8 hour shifts. I am lucky as this allows me to schedule prenatal appointments and child birth classes on my days off

I tell my boss everything. We were coworkers for about 12 years before he was promoted to a management position. Now as of 2 months ago he is my boss. It's so great just to be able to talk to him and his wife about all this stuff!

Have you applied for FMLA? You can count your time off for appts under that and you can just say you need x hours for FML. My boss is amazing, and she's a mom, so she gets it. I don't mind sharing details with her but I do just generally tell her I have an appt.
