LMP vs actual O day

Question for you ladies..

Are you going to give your doctor your actual O day if you were temping? I'm debating on whether or not to just lie about my lmp. I ovulated on CD 16 not CD 14 like they use in their calculation. I was thinking of saying my last lmp was two days later than it was since I am not sure if they will care whether I confirmed O or not. I never spoke to my obgyn about temping so I don't know their take on it. It's only 2 days but I want to be as accurate as possible. Hopefully I worded this in a way that makes sense...
How are you ladies going to handle it?

yes. my LMP would put me at over 6 weeks but I have PCOS and know for a fact that I didn't ovulate before 5/8 (I had labs and an ultrasound done) I had this exact discussion with my OBs office today but the receptionist doesn't care so I have an appointment in 2 weeks instead of the customary longer wait which is fine by me.

  • I gave them the LMP. but I calculated both and O date gives me 2 days earlier. I figure 2 days isn't too much of a difference.

  • So, as much as I'd like to do that, for my son my due date was Nov 1, but if you went off my ovulation date it was Oct 31. When did he come?? Nov 9! So a flux of a couple days I'm not sure I personally worry about anymore. But I know different doctors do different things, so you could ask for sure if she would like the information you have.

Thanks! You are right. Two days wouldn't be a big deal anyway. I suppose I was just excited I had that information!
I'm so glad there are so many ladies who are already mama's here here :-)

  • I'm giving them my LMP because I'm fairly sure my O date was exactly 14 days later. Either that day or the day later because I tested positive at 11DPO.

  • Hi @nicosh8! I'm lurking from... um... Well you know. Anyway, I just wanted to say that it's probably best to give your doc your O date! Of course they'll ask your LMP, and that's relevant, too, but if you know your O date, they'll ask that, too.

Also, your first ultrasound will confirm your due date, but obviously with temping, your O date is the most accurate date you can get! If your ultrasound is off by more than 7 days either direction, many doctors will go by that and change the due date, which isn't likely to happen in your situation. Considering your O date and LMP date are two days apart, I would think your doctor shouldn't be concerned with using the O date.

I would say that you just give them all the information you have, including the date you O'd based off temping. I think an OB who questions the validity of temping to confirm O is a sketchy doc!

  • My doctors have surprisingly never asked my O date. My midwife in my first pregnancy asked for my LMP unless I knew the exact date I conceived, lol So weird.

  • @Sprinkles07 yes! Same here. I like having a due date, but I see it as a suggestion now, whereas before it was more exciting.

  • Since it seems like +/- 1-2 wks on due date is common, I'm not sure its that big a deal for 2 days - I didn't O (temping) until CD22 - so I'll likely give both dates to my OB (she won't see me until about 8 wks), since a full week might be more relevant?

I am going to give my O date. I have longer cycles so feel it would be more accurate. Since I will have a c-section and they schedule in the 39th week I don't want them to think I am earlier than I am either.

  • I am going to give my O date. I had my mirena removed and haven't had a real period yet. If it weren't for tempting I would have no idea what date to tell them.

  • Another thing to consider is that they might change your due date based on baby's size at the first ultrasound the date is just so fluid I don't think it matters.

  • With my other pregnancies they asked me LMP and if I knew the day I conceived. With DS I did know. Conception and LMP were two days apart and he actually said, "You pick which date you want to go by." I picked 4/18 because my other date would have been 4/20. LOL. With DD I had no idea so they just went by my her measurements and my LMP. When I called to make this 8 week appt they only asked my LMP. My appt ended up being at 7 weeks 4 days. So I was happy to make it a few days earlier!

  • I think the only person it really matters much to is you and your husband. I told my doc last time and she said bc it was within a week she wasn't going to worry about it. But it's nice information for you to have.
