3rd Trimester

Yeast Infections making baby come early?

I will be 33 weeks Monday, and I almost went into labor Wednesday morning. Why? Because of a really bad yeast infection which was apparently agitating my cervix. I'm already effacing, but the doctor says that once the treatment's over and the infection's gone, things should get back to semi-normal.  However, I'm still on limited activity and pelvic rest. This is my first baby, and it's safe to say I'm a bit freaked about her coming too early.

Have any of you had this problem? Will being un-infected really reverse all this? And just how bad is having a baby at 33 weeks or a little later?

  • I had nine YI last pregnancy and had my baby 5 days before his due date. I wasn't put on limited activity or pelvic rest. My providers never mentioned early labour as being a threat with a YI.

    This.

I had 4 with DS and went into labor 2 days after his EDD. I never once heard about going into early labor because of it.

I had YI but never heard about going into labour early. My Baby was born healthy at 38 weeks but nothing to do why having YI, he was just ready to make an appearance
  • I've never heard of a yeast infection causing preterm labor, but I have heard that bacterial vaginosis (if untreated) can lead to that. They present the same. Taking a probiotic helped me ward it off after two straight bouts.

Not trying to be an arm flailer. Here's some info:

  • I've also never heard of a YI causing early labor. I am just getting rid of one, and the only risk my OB discussed with me was the baby being born with thrush if we couldn't knock it out before then. As PPs have said, BV can cause early labor and presents similarly.

  • Thank you for the feedback. I don't know why I'm having so many preterm labor signs. Perhaps my cervix is just weak? I'm not sure.
  • I also have a yeast infection and like you was put on medication to make it go away. Mine got so bad that I was having contractions because of it... Very dangerous. So take some pro biopic and eat yogart
  • I had BV and a YI at about 32 weeks and my OB put me on antibiotics and said the infections could cause premature labor.
