Old wives tales...

which are your favorite old wives tales and has it been debunked or proven?

    I always love the hr one... Partially because speculation is fun, and partially because there is some truth to it. When I say truth, I mean a study was done and found a correlation to the sex of the baby and hr as it was passing through the birth canal... Unfortunately never before, and at that point who cares you will be finding out any minute :)

    I don't really care for any of them, half were right and half were wrong for me. The heart rate one was wrong for my son.

    I read somewhere for my son that if you're seriously ravenous like a teenage boy you might be baking a little boy. Was so true for me. But when I was pregnant with my son, I also had many people "know" I was pregnant with a boy because 1) my butt was so wide (said as nicely as possible lol) and 2) the way I was carrying. Though I heard if you get severe acne, its a girl, and holy crap I broke out like crazy in first tri with my son (it could have also been attributed to never washing my face because I was SO TIRED).

    Ya the butt one is great! I had a patient so proudly proclaim I was having a boy because my butt was big. I told her the joke was on her because it's always big. Old people are so rude when it comes to that stuff!

    Lol in the chick who told me it was because my butt was big's defense, she really didn't want to tell me why she thought that, but I dragged it out of her...

    Everyone said because I carried high I was going to have a girl which was true in my case. I also heard a lot that all of the heartburn that I was having meant she was going to have a lot of hair. She wasn't totally bald, but certainly didn't have enough hair to warrant ALL of the heartburn I experienced!

    Oh my gawd the heartburn and hair! When DS was being born the doc said, oh look at that hair! Know what DH said? "I told you he'd have hair after all your heartburn!" IN LABOR! So guess what happens next...while I'm in labor and pushing and business...a while long convo between docs, nurses, DH, and me about heartburn and hair.
