I have had a few small hard cover photo books made up of DH and I's wedding for the grandparents/parents. They came out good for the price. I did them from my desktop, I think it would be very difficult from the phone - I found I had to do a lot of "preview" then go back and change things to get them just right. But if you are looking for an affordable option, they definitely come out better than one you would get at CVS or somewhere.
I've liked shutterfly and I used their companion site, Tiny Prints, for the twins' birth announcement. If you're ordering prints from a professional shoot I think that there are better websites that print more crisply but I agree with @Miz_Liz that it is better quality than CVS
I like both snapfish and shutterfly. Check around and see who has the best deal. Both frequently have deals so be sure to check their websites and Facebook pages often. It's much easier to use the laptop than the app, but if you're just printing prints from your phone, the app is fine.
I have used shutterfly and think it's perfectly fine. However, when I print "more important" photos like wedding, birth etc I LOVE Adorama. You cant get much better quality than this unless you're an actual photographer w a license to use other sites. Adorama frequently has sales and if you sign up for email I believe you'll get a discount off your first order. I wouldn't get these books for everyday pics, but definitely worth a little extra money for those photos that are a little more precious!
Need a good read? There's a new blogger in town... www.thepinningmama.com
I made a 20-page photo book with Shutterfly for pictures of costumes I have made.
Their book layout is pretty set in stone, they give you choices (like a dozen or so different page layouts) but you can't customize beyond their page templates. I found it difficult to add square-shaped pictures because all of the layouts (except the full page photo) assume your photos are rectangular. Also, their text boxes are very small so if you want captions they need to be brief. Still, the book was free and I just had to pay shipping so it was worth it. And it looks great.
I switched to Costco since it's so much cheaper than Shutterfly. I'm a member, but you don't have to be to order a photobook. I created the exact same book on both sites and Costco came to $21 and Shutterfly was $46.
I will say shutterfly is easier to use but I order 6 books at a time (grandparents and great-grandparents) and the price difference was crazy to me.
I'm a Shutterfly fan as well, and like others said they have sales/discounts often. Sometimes they'll post an offer on Facebook but you won't see it on their website. Example, they occasionally do 101 free 4x6 prints and you just pay the shipping. Which is an awesome deal. I used their site (on a laptop) to make a photo book for my wedding and it came out nicely. I got a lot of compliments on it.
Love them!!!!! I've ordered father's day gifts and prints in all sizes. I ironically just got a shipment today from them! Their shipping prices are great compared to most companies I've used and they send me promo codes for free prints, posters, keychains, etc. They're worth it IMO.
I LOVE My Publisher! I think the quality is a million times better than shutterfly. And once you're on their mailing list, you get REALLY good coupons. You can order mini books for $1 which are awesome to mail to parents and grandparents. There was even a deal once that was buy one, get one. I made my son's first year album through them and it came out so professional looking.
Love them! Just got my baby shower scrapbook in the mail today
Edit: and if you ever have any issues with an order, they will send you a brand new of whatever it is for free with no issues. A book came damaged two times in a row once and they just kept sending them to me. They were minor issues but it was a gift and I wanted it to be perfect.
I have used shutterfly, tinyprints, mypublisher, and snapfish. All were perfectly fine for what I needed them for. Shutterfly will let you order prints, and then have them made at target and walgreens (4x6 only)...but that is sort of nice when I forgot to print something for a family member I'm about to see.
check retailmenot for coupons/discount codes, too. And, mypublisher is always running book specials.
I'm a huge shutterfly fan. I've been doing the books for years as my hobby. The more you do, the better you get at making them. As with anything, practice makes perfect. I would never do it from my phone. Too many details for a small screen! Get the lay flat pages. It's more expensive but so worth it. I wait till they do a 50/30 sale to buy mine, if I can. That's 50% off the book and 30% off everything else, such as extra pages, the lay flat option, storytelling packages, etc.
