Anyone have a boy who has a testicular torsion?

my son was born with testicular torsion which means that one of his testicles was twisted in utero (in my uterus before he was born) and since there is no blood supply going to the testicle it is pretty much no good anymore and it is recommend that it gets removed when he is 3 months (he is 2 months old now). Is anyone else going through this? I'm scared of having him getting anesthesia at 3 months old and only having 1 testicle. They say they do this surgery so young to protect the other testicle so he doesn't loose that one too and that the 1 testicle is all he needs because it compensates for the loss of the other one; so he will still produce testosterone and develop normally and be able to have children etc im just sooo nervous about this surgery etc I know this is a hard topic to discuss and maybe even embarrassing but it's bothering me and I know that it is not uncommon to happen so there has to be other moms out there going through the same thing. Even if you aren't going through it I don't mind anyone's thoughts on the matter but please no disrespectful remarks it's hard enough to deal with as it is. Thank you

Re: Anyone have a boy who has a testicular torsion?

  • My baby has undescended testicles and if they don't descend within his first year he will have to have surgery. The urologist told us that he will most likely have to have surgery which makes me very anxious. I try my best not to google because that just made my anxiety go through the roof.

Although our boys don't have the same issue I definitely understand your worry for his future but as my dh constantly tells me it doesn't help to worry about issues out of our control. So for now I just enjoy my baby and try not to obsess about his future too much.. Which is hard but has helped me to keep a bit more sane because I was thinking about it constantly his first couple weeks. Hang in there mama!

  • Thank you for not being judgemental or disrespectful and for your kind words! Best wishes to you as well
  • My niece had to undergo anesthesia when she was about three months old - obviously for a different reason. It did make me nervous, but everything went fine. She actually had to be put under a second time & likely will again in the future (she is 7 months now). I hope all goes well for your son!
  • Thank you for the support his surgery is July 10th and I've never been so nervous about something before so your story makes me feel a bit better
  • Good luck! Keep us posted on how it goes. I'll be thinking of your little man

My LO had to have surgery when he was just 4 weeks old for a different problem but he was fine during and after it and they even let me feed him (I'm breastfeeding) straight away when he came out of recovery. It was actually better in the long run that he was so small as he didn't and still doesn't remember a thing about the surgery (his poor mama will never forget it!) and he is such a happy little boy now, u would never know what had happened. Another good thing about having surgery when they are this small is the recovery, at least a small baby will just lie down and is not crawling or moving or able to pull out stictches etc. Ur baby going for surgery is not nice but I hope these few little things will make it a bit easier xx Best of luck to ur little boy and u and remember those cuddles when he comes out of surgery are like no other xxx
  • Thank you very good point :)
