Small Bump Camaraderie

My baby is the size of a cauliflower, but my bump is the size of a peanut.

I'm tall (5'9), long waisted and am BARELY showing. I had a co-worker tell me how great I looked and thought i was only a few months pregnant. When I told her I was six months (25 weeks) she was SHOCKED. This has happened a few times, usually followed by a statement of disbelief.

Everything with baby is healthy and on-track. I can feel him kicking regularly, so I'm not worried and am thankful everything is healthy, but it is still kind of sucks to not be part of the big bump club.

Anyone else here that could be a candidate for "I didn't know I was pregnant?" Let's hold hands and sign kum ba yah. And eat smores because we're pregnant, even if no one can tell.

  • I'm with ya, girlfriend! My midwife is a bit concerned because I haven't gained any weight yet, but baby girl is healthy as can be. :) Maybe we'll just pop overnight one of these days! ;)
  • I had a teacher notice my belly for the first time today at 26 weeks. She asked if i just found out and almost died when i said i was 6 months. I'm tall and have a long torso too..it's nice to get out it that awkward are you chubby for preggo stage!

I shall join! I'm being soundly 'out bumped' by coworkers who are less far along than me. I still get the "wait, you're pregnant!" from people who have yet to catch on. I went to register last weekend and so many pregnant woman were judging my belly (poorly).
    *Siggy Warning*

  • Right there with you. 26 weeks and people are shocked when I tell them I'm pregnant let alone 6 months along. I don't mind though, no belly to be in the way, still wearing most of my regular clothes...

  • Although I'm only 5'5" and 26 weeks, and I feel like I'm showing (maybe on the smaller side) I've had many people be really shocked when I tell them how far along I am. I'm a PCA and had a client's mother question whether I'm actually pregnant. It's pretty frustrating to me because I feel huge and most of my normal clothes don't fit anymore. ):
  • I'm wondering if it's a mindset thing.

I'm 5'1" and started very thin (yay!). Strangers can tell I am pregnant. Even with this, last night, I felt like I just looked like an Oompa Loompa instead.
  • Mine def popped at 25 w, I'm 26 weeks today. it's still small compared to some other bumps, but its real now. I'm petite but overweight prepregnancy.
But until this week, I was able to cover it up if needed
  • But yes- I'm 5'8" and also have a long torso. Baby has room to hide.

My mom with the same body type said she didn't pop til 8/9 months and said she just looked a little chunky until then.
  • Baby 3 and she didn't start showing proudly until this last week 22-23 weeks! With my other 2 I was enormous at 16weeks, every baby really is different!
  • Well, I'm only about 5'4 and have a totally short torso, but I'm still not very big! My belly is round, but I started out so thin and small, that I guess strangers think I just have a bit of a beer gut! I can only assume people who do know me, but don't know about baby, just wonder why I've gotten so pudgy these days haha. That being said, try wearing actual maternity clothes if it bugs you! A soft, slimmer cut t-shirt with ruching (sp?) is way more flattering than a regular t-shirt being stretched, in my opinion! Plus it just makes you feel more pregnant and prettier :) (Yeah, let's not be shallow, but let's also not pretend it isn't nice to feel a little pretty right now!)
  • I wear maternity jeans but maternity shirts are still too baggy and unflattering. And I can't size down in them since they fit in the arms/chest.
  • I too have had shocked responses when I tell them I'm 25 weeks. I've heard "I thought you'd be so much bigger by now!" so much lately from my clients that I haven't seen in a couple months… I started wearing maternity jeans and tight maternity tshirts or snug maxi dresses to try to show off my bump more now. I find when I wear looser clothes I feel frumpy, but with a slimmer silhouette it helps the bump pop! Definitely helps to make me feel prettier!!!

I'm short, 5' 1", this is my third, and this baby is sitting so low I could still hide it completely if I wanted to. The only noticeable thing is my boobs. I had people asking my mom if I was still pregnant at 20 weeks. Now I'm 23 and find I pop out a bit at night. I kind of love it, but sometimes I get irritated at how people treat me because I'm not the size they think I should be.
  • Right there with you ladies!
I'm 5'4" with a long torso and got some shocked responses at tonight's neighborhood block party! Most were complimentary though and for that I truly don't mind! One neighbor, who had her 4th in February said she could always see her toes, with every pregnancy! Everyone comes in different sizes and shapes.. I'm having the most fun with my larger than ever boobs! I do second the posts about getting into maternity jeans/ruched tops, they accentuate what bump is there. When people respond unfavorably, I politely tell them- "She is definitely in there, kicking constantly... I'm sure I'll pop soon. Look at Dad (he's 6'4"!)"
  • This is so annoying and happens to me EVERYDAY! Was just at a party last night and told DH to pay attention to the comments and looks. Ran into a lady I know well, I said I'm pregnant, she says "congrats can't wait to hear if it's a boy or girl, keep me posted!" I told her it's a boy, and that I was almost 26 weeks. Her face shriveled with this look of sourness and eyes went to my belly saying, "That can't be possible!!! Is it genetic?!" I get this so often I knew what she meant. I told her my baby boy is healthy, and yes I'm feeding him nonstop! Plus, my mom had basketball pregnancies, too.

I'm 5'8", thin, with an hourglass figure. My tummy has always been nonexistent. So I do have a tiny round bump, but now I guess I just look 'normal' instead of like I'm wearing a corset(which pre-pregnancy I would get asked all the time to the point I would have to show them my skin/tummy to prove it was 'just me')

My DH finally gets why I'm so annoyed because he said the lady was acting really weird after she found out how far I was! Haha

When will people learn, pregnant or not, ALL BODIES ARE UNIQUE!!! Sheesh.
  • To those of you on the smaller bump size, are you feeling movement? I'm 5'4" and too on the smaller size of the bump, most think I'm about 4 months, not 6 (today.) however I'm not feeling movement.

  • I'm just about 5'8 and have had medical professionals call me a liar!! Needless to say, I give a beautifully smug smile and ask for them to listen on the Doppler. I laugh and they walk away blushing. I am not complaining though, the longer I can stay in my own clothes the better
  • Gosh! I'm 5'8 and people think I'm going to pop any day when I tell them I'm only 25 weeks they look shocked I'm all tummy big and round. I wish my tummy was a little smaller the aches and pains are killing me and I'm very uncomfortable. I would def embrace a smaller one for sure.

I'm a pretty private person, and it actually kind of bothers me when people tell me "wow, you're really managing your weight well" or "you don't look as pregnant as [the other girl in my office who is about the same due date as me]". Why do they feel like it's now okay to comment on my weight? I can't help how much my belly is or is not sticking out!

@GeorgiaDottie I can feel kicking, I'm at 26 weeks. But we still can't feel from the outside. And it took awhile to feel a real kick, just last couple weeks. Biggest when I'm in my recliner.

I definitely wear maternity pants, but I can still wear a lot of my old shirts. The pants help round it out a little.

The bump has popped and I can tell, but it's definitely still on the small side. It's about where a coworker was at like 18 weeks. For a point of reference.
  • Oh- I'm still getting all the aches and pains! Just cuz I have small bump doesn't mean I'm getting lucky that way. It got so bad my doctor wrote me a note for physical therapy. It's helping but the pain is still there:(

My physical therapist every time she sees me says "I can't believe your pregnant" but she says it so sweetly it doesn't bother me. It's the women that act like I'm harming my baby cuz I don't have a bump they drive me crazy!
  • Me!! I get the "where's your bump?" "There's no way your 6 months!" "Your so small! " comments all the time! I wear something tight and then all the sudden it's like oh you are pregnant! Haha I don't care. I haven't bought any maternity clothes yet which is good and bad. I haven't bought jeans cause the xs still looks bagging in the hip area so I'm just wearing the belly band with a size or 2 bigger pants. It happened with my first too. When they do the measuring tape measures at like 34 weeks because my torso is so long I was measuring small so the dr ordered an ultrasound (which stressed me). He was 5lbs then born at 8lbs 12oz haha long torso problems
  • @GeorgieDottie I'm 24 weeks tomorrow, and I also have movement. I'm actually to the point that I can see movement from the outside, not just feel. But I also started off very very small, and just remember, we're all different! Even if we're presenting the same, baby's positioning and placenta and all kinds of stuff change things :)
