Sore nipple question

dh is now 3 days old. The first day he had a great latch and was feeding well. When he got circumsized the second day, things went downhill. I didn't know it but he was using me as a paci for a 2.5 hour session on same breast. Since then I've been learning the difference between just soothing(which reuins my nipples) and feeding. But I'm still sore and also worried because he doesn't eat for 3 or so hours. When dh eats, he has a really good feeding. Am I doing something wrong? How can I sooth my nipples and make sure he's not just pacifying? And will it get better when my milk comes in?

    My LO did the same and I ended with really sore nipples. LC told me to not let him feed for more than 15 mins on one side, and to switch if he is still hungry. Or you can do 7 minutes on each side and switch twice.

    After a circumcision, they don't tend to eat much for the next 24-48 hours. They really just sleep a lot. I wouldn't worry about that unless he continues past 48 hours of not eating much. When my LO is still latched but not eating, only pacifying, I unlatch him. If he's still hungry, he will give me signs. If he isn't hungry, he usually drifts off to sleep. If you are still at the hospital, ask for a nipple cream, or you can use a few drops of your milk once it comes in. Also, don't let him stay on one side for so long!

    Let your nipples air dry with some of your milk or colostrum on them. Also ask your LC about possibly using a nipple shield. This was a life saver for me!

    Sorry, yes ds. I've def learned to not let him pacify, but my nipples haven't healed. I think we are going to try the nipple shields

    I also found breastfeeding to be a lot less painful once my milk came in. My little one didn't have to suck as hard and my nipples got less sore. Try Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter. It's excellent.
