I'm having my first, and planning for a water birth at home. I spoke to 3 different midwifery practices around the valley (2 of the 3 seemed really good) but finally settled with Sarah Butterfly. Both my hubby and I felt a strong connection with her, and I felt completely comfortable to be 100% open and honest about my past, my desires for this birth, and what we hope to achieve during the birthing process. Feels like a great fit with her! https://www.midwifeskaleidoscope.org/

@buckwheatpancakes who else did you look at? What were your observations of the others?
I met with Beyond Conception Midwifery Services, they were my runner up choice. I chose Sarah because I felt a deeper personal connection with her.
I also spoke to Midwives Rising over the phone twice. The first time I called I felt the other party was slightly defensive and judgy regarding my questions. She was also having a lengthy conversation with me while in the midst of something else, constantly talking to a other in the room with her. I asked her if this was a good time and she said yes, but I felt she was barely half present in convo. Overall, I felt the least comfortable with their services.
I also did yelp research, Google research, and read plenty of reviews. Ultimately, it was not just my decision, but also my partners since we look at this as a joint birthing journey, and we both talked about pros and cons with each service and who was most open to our needs, wants, and desired birth plan.
I live in a duplex so I don't think home birth is the best option for me, but I'm assuming you ladies are going natural? I would love some help and motivation finding good material to study and prep for the birth, because I'm hoping to do natural too!
@oaksem why would being in a duplex rule out home birth?
My good friend had her home birth in an apartment
Check out birthwithoutfearblog.com for some great stories and such
ACOG has lots of materials about home birth and natural birth, but some (nearly all) of their statistics are slightly misleading (like they consider a women who had a planned hospital birth, but accidental gave birth at home without a midwife as a "home birth"), so take it with a grain of salt.
@antoto good point! I guess I did want to scare the poor grad students next door haha! We'll see how this birth goes because a home birth does sound nice

I had a natural birth at Phoenix Baptist, with the midwives from Bethany Women's, who were great. I used the hypnobabies program for preparation.

He settles her in her home as a happy mother of children, praise the Lord! (Psalms 113:9)
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understand, will guard your heart and mind in Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:7)
For home birth, check out Pam White and Marinah Farrell. I am a doula and have done births with these ladies and they are phenomenal. I saw them both during my own pregnancy too. I may have commented on another one of your posts as well, but check out Babymoon Inn birth center if you are interested in a birth center. :-)
