RANT: My dog sucks!!

Ok we got a puppy at the beginning of Decemeber for DS and DH. I've never owned a dog before. He is 8months old and a mix breed so a bit larger (think lab) than we expected. Pure muscle too!

Either way, this adorable "puppy" bull dozed me over today and I landed hard on my left elbow, on our concrete pad. I am PISSED and sore... Also landed on my hip and my right foot is bruised. I realize he is a puppy but what a dumb animal!!

Anyone else fall (or get knocked over) yet? Thankfully my elbow hurts the most and I didn't get injured worse. I'm not usually a big whiner or cry baby but I couldn't handle it at the moment and even called DH to find out where he was as I needed him home stat!

Thanks for the rant!

Re: RANT: My dog sucks!!

  • My dog has been an ahole lately. Barking way more and stealing food off the counters. It sucks so much when you walk away from your lunch on the counter to go change a poopy diaper and come back to a mess on the floor and your dog giving you that guilty look.

He jumps too but we are really firm about that and don't let him do it. Knee up to block him type of thing.

They can be so dumb sometimes and then the best companions ever a few minutes later. I love my stupid dog lol

  • My dogs are both small and I am always afraid of stepping on them lol my moms big lab chow mix bulldozes everybody and she hasn't knocked me over but I had a bottle of snapple that she knocked out of my hand! I wasn't so mad because it was almost gone but I had to clean up a glass bottle..Not fun at all

My in-laws have a really bulky cat, actually, and he almost plowed me over one day running into the kitchen through the breezeway.  This was pre-pregnancy, and luckily, I had one foot planted firmly on the ground or I would have gone down.
  • My dogs are actually both rather calm. If anything they're both up my butt keeping and eye on me since I'm pregnant. Both are puppies so I'm honestly surprised. Maybe consider some training? I downloaded a couple of dog training apps to my phone and they've helped. Used to be both of them peed all over my house and tore things up. But thanks to a guide I downloaded and some kennel training they're both really well behaved now.

From the moment I held you in my arms, I knew it was meant to be.

    I adore her smile,
    I cherish her hugs,
    I admire her heart.
    But most of all,
I love that she is my daughter.

  • I agree training is something you should look into. It's not fair to the dog either if it's treated like a 'dumb animal' (when it's not, it's a puppy who was probably excited). Either you want a dog and will love it, or find a home that will love and provide a good home for it.
  • I had almost the same th
  • Sorry! Posted too early! I had almost the same thing happen although it was totally not my dog's fault. She is usually really hyper but she was being super calm just sleeping on the floor and I didn't see her. I had a plate in my hand and tripped right over her and fractured my elbow! This was when I was about 6 weeks pregnant so I couldn't take any pain meds or anything and I had to take care of my 15 mo old with one arm in a sling for 3 weeks. It sucked! Hope you heal up soon! Also, I agree on the training. So much easier before the baby comes! My pup was 8 mos when my son was born but we worked with her a lot and it was a pretty easy transition. Good luck!
  • I am chuckling to myself a little right now. My puppy has been through 10weeks of intensive training and is overall a good puppy. He just ticked me off yesterday. He suffers from "rabbit syndrome" and bolts after anything that suddenly piques his interest in our yard (what happened yesterday). I just happened to be between the two of them at the time. He can be jumpy with new adults (great with kids tho) out of excitement which we are actively working on.
  • It's my mom's cat that's the issue, she'll walk between my legs until I feed her. I'm convinced she's trying to kill me. I have a small dog so she's a barking machine, me and DH are looking into getting her some more training before the baby comes.

He's only 8 months, seems to be a puppy with high energy. I highly recommend investing in a training collar. We used it with our 2 big dogs. They are the sweetest boys and helped a ton to train them. Amazon has a good deal on them.
You could try getting him a trainer.
    Good luck!
  • Sounds like my dog when he was a puppy! The good news is he will (or should!) grow out of it. Chase was rather challenging when he was a baby, but tturned out to be absolutely wonderful and such a good boy! He still has his moments when he gets very excited and just doesn't listen but he is great otherwise! Just be patient because he is a baby yet and work with him. It will help so much! I found that a nice long walk helps them too because it allows them to get a lot of energy out and check out new things. Gotta be patient with walks too though until he is leash trained well. I had quite a strong right arm when Chase was learning to take walks! Haha!

I have 2 labs (6 years and 4 years) and they both still nearly knock me down when they are excited.  Since being pregnant, I have to make them go down the stairs before me and make sure I am holding on to a wall & stand still for a few seconds when I get home from work (excited to see me).  They don't know how big they are but they are the sweetest boys in the world. Don't be too hard on your pup, he doesn't know.

  • My moms older dog Lily is a lab chow mix and she did the same thing..she grew out of it as she got a little older but she is very well trained and behaved..we paid a trainer to train her and it was money well spent..she now knows exactly what she's suppose to do and she still has fun and loves to run around.. She has hip dysplasia and she has her medicine.. But she hates taking it so we got her some hip and joint treats and she does amazing still.. Just try to train him and it's much better to start now when they are puppies then when they are older because then they will be harder to teach
